Additional details: Bowler 2 has not played tests for over 13 months, has struggled for rhythm (his own words), has not picked wickets in domestic cricket either Bowler 1 was dropped briefly from the side, went back to domestic cricket, picked a 9-fer. Was recalled to a dead rubber, took 4 wickets and took 5 wickets in his last test

When your captain is a*****e in handling seamers than what yoy can do you about that ? Ishant gets out of team, one good match in Ranji that too against lower ranked team and comes back to team. Again one good spell and all his bad bowling is forgotten and he becomes your frontline bowler. TBH Dhoni rates him above Shami thats why Shami is under used. Now when I watch videos of Aus tour 2008 or Mohali match where he bowlef clarke with ripper inswing, I think like if I am day dreaming. Dhoni's habit of chosing wrong players till they start performing and proving himself right has let India down many times. I think its time we need some fresh ideas, but who has guts ? Only selectors can help by not selecting him

Moreover, if a captain has a 140k+ bowler whose bowling well, why wouldn't he pick him? When the team is losing all the conspiracy theorists come out..

Going back to tried and tested failure instead of supporting good talent is why we never had a good fast bowler and never will. How come Umesh/BK are judged by couple of failures while Ishant is judged only by his last success? Wouldn't performance over a year be worth looking at more? Using your logic in batting how many of the current team will be in? Would Rohit have got the long rope he had? Bet you guys will be the same ones blaming our insipid bowling performances without giving two hoots at to the root cause behind it. Tired and tested failures will always give you the same result. They might have occasional good performances but in the long run, we will have the same results
Moreover' date=' if a captain has a 140k+ bowler whose bowling well, why wouldn't he pick him? When the team is losing all the conspiracy theorists come out..[/quote'] Because he is an extremely defensive captain who believes bowling is a defensive strategy and we can win matches by bowling line and length and strangling the opposition. Works on Indian pitches with spinners but not over-seas. This is also another reason none of our bowlers last the distance because they are there to make the numbers, not be useful. If you were in Umesh's place, wouldn't you be tempted to reduce pace?

The last time Umesh bowled in tests, he did well against England on a flat, slow track in Ahmedabad. He got some crucial wickets in the middle which helped us win the game. He got injured and couldnt play Aus series. He came back for Champions Trophy where he did well and also showed he is fit. He should have been back in the side for tests. I sort of understand Ishant's selection because he got 9 wickets in a FC game after he was dropped, got 4 wickets in a ODI in SA, got 4 wickets in 1st innings 1st test, has the height and hits the deck which is valuable in these conditions. Umesh could have been picked instead of Zaheer who looked lackluster in this game but they thought his experience counts. I hope Umesh gets picked in the next series. The guy is a good test bowler. He picked wickets against Australia in their home conditions. Reverse swing at pace is always a weapon.

Zaheer was picked in the 2nd Test because of his performance in Wanderers. Has been the worst bowler in this match by miles. Trundling at 117ks when the pitch is reversing. I have no faintest idea why Umesh isn't selected on the first place. That guy was not dropped from the side after the Tri Series in WI, but rested. Since then, he is being treated like a second string bowler whereas I feel he is still the best of the lot with that pace. His confidence would be grounded just like that of Rahane and to those who whine about his control with that pace, he was only going to get better with experience. Even Steyn took some time to storm into the act before he became what he is right now. Ishant is like those jackpots in the slot at a casino. The odds are very low of it matching up thrice in a row. Gives us a good performance today and fairly enough is opted for the next game, does decently enough there and throws out a cluster of horrendous performance which costs a series or 4.

Performance in last one year - BK 6 tests, 9 wickets :--D

O but in tests we need this economical line and length bowler. So he is 78 mph who cares' date=' he is accurate, exactly what we need:giggle:[/quote'] I wouldn't mind BK in the 11 actually. Should be there in place of Zaheer in NZ. BK, Shami and Umesh as I don't think Aaron is ready for international comeback yet.
