Cricketics
i do wonder what Kumble would need to do to climb that table? get support from the fielders so that he can get more wickets.... India needz good forward short leg fielder like Aakash chopra.. all those are top classs fielding sdies.. their bowlers get lot wickets which can be also termed as a "credit to fielder" we don't have such fielders.. kkd and jaffer and all drop lot of catches when they field on silly point and stuff.. The Outsider
i do wonder what Kumble would need to do to climb that table? Become a pace bowler. The bowler's ratings are biased in favor of the faster men. I had an email exchange with PWC (when the present LG-ICC rankings were known as the PWC rankings) and explained to them how their ranking system goes against spinners who have traditionally had higher averages and SRs than faster bowlers because of the long spells they put in during matches. Murali aside no spinner who has played a substantial number of matches averages less than 25 and it would be crazy for a spinner to strike at 45-50, where the top pacers have. Their reply was that they try to compensate for it by giving 0.5 point for every 30 deliveries bowled in general, but the lop sided bowling ranking indicate that compensation is not enough. There is absolutely no way that Kumble is a lesser bowler than Lee, Ntini, and Steyn as of today and no way that Panesar and Vettori are worse than Franklin and Martin, specially since these ratings also factor in career performances. talksport 1 Link to comment
