Kanitkar's regret

Calcutta: Former India left-hander Hrishikesh Kanitkar feels that batting down the order cut short his international career. “I always had to bat down the order, at No. 7… Always in the last couple of overs of the match when there were little time to settle down,†Kanitkar said on Thursday. i owe that guy at least a chai. he saved my 100 rupee way back in the bangladesh independence cup final by hitting the most important shot- a four off saqlain mushtaq in the last over - the cup for india, after Ganguly built on the good platform laid by sachin . I had a bet with my friend, with the only 100 rupee i had, to return to chennai by bus for work the next day!I thanked Kanitkar as much for hitting the winning shot as much as for saving my ticket money! i felt he would have done better as a middle order bat in the test team, however there was not much space.unlucky guy.he was very consistent in the domestic circuit.

He was better than his record suggests. He has got nobody but himself to blame though, he got plenty of chances, but never made full use of 'em. International cricket is SO competitive nowadays that a youngster has to perform immediately for him to retain his place, like how Ishant Sharma has done. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you dont deliver at the right time, there is no use.

Even Dravid started at #7 in the first few tests. He was promoted after being successful in his first few tests and some stalwarts like Manjrekar/Kambli were dropped from the top order. He never gave anybody any excuse to promote him upwards.

lol i remember this match i think it was a loft over the bowlers head or sumthing when india needed 3 runs in 2 balls or something
