Nope, sure we'll miss him in the dressing room and the aura he carries around with him as well as his influence on the younger players. But, in terms of results I don't think he'll be sorely missed or at least as much as people would want to make out. He's been an unbelievable player for us, one of the best and will always go down in the history books but if he was any other player his position in the team would be under question.

Thats a very honest post. Is the lack of quality young replacements the reason why he clings on to his place? It seems out of place to the old ruthless aussies and the way they went about dealing with older players who had stopped delivering. Now aussie selectors seem much less ruthless and more forgiving. They seem almost caring! The fact his place is not even being questioned and he is still being lauded is bizare.

He has 4 centuries against both BD and ZIM. You might say that Tendulkar has played very well against Australia, but that is very misleading. For example both in 04 and 08 Sachin scored his century in the last Test of the series when the bowlers were tired and the series already yielded a result. That 241 he scored at Sydney was so cheap, it was one of the flattest pitches you would ever see and the sun was baking, India made 700+ in that 1 innings. Ponting on the other hand has an exceptional average against both PAK and SA (who have the best seamers). Ponting scores most of his centuries in the 1st Test of a series where there is the most pressure. It seems no one wants to examine the clear weaknesses in Ponting eg his poor pefformances in England and India. Also his poor prformances in recent times eg has not averaged over 50 since 2006, thats 4 years ago. To me it seems clear he cant play in swinging/seaming conditions and on turning tracks against his greatest foe!

I knew it would happen for obvious reasons, was just trying to make a point on why this thread should be closed. If I made a thread like this against Sachin in an Australian or Pakistani thread, I would be shot down by anybody active in the forums. It would also be closed because of it's stupidity. I wonder why the mods haven't done anything about this thread for 2 years.
