Yeah he got a ton in 1st test but it was flattest track ever when he batted, as shown by every tom dick and harry in aussie team getting a ton in that game from North to Haddin. Despite that gift of a ton he is only averaging 46 on this tour as he has shockingly yet to go past 50 again. Once again showing that his average record in england contiues. He also showing he cant bat that well when the heat is on and when he knows he has not got a brilliant team behind him. Serious case for axing Ponting. In 2007 averged 38, 2008 47 and 2009 38 only. Sustained period of under achievment.
Bradman99 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Anyone who would call someone who has scored over 11000 runs and averages above 50 as mediocre clearly has no idea, but he has certainly fallen a few levels as a batsman the past few years. He does not have that same aura anymore, I used to be so confident he would score high scores, but now, I don't get that feeling at all. Coincidentally it has sort of been with the retirements of key players, he has had more pressure fall on his shoulders and I just think that has affected his performance. I feel his best years are behind him, but he still has a lot to offer.

Now that he has some inconsistent , waning players around him. Also his weakness when he starts an innings is ruthlessly being exploited every team. Sometimes he looks amaturish when he struggles to pick the length.

I think it is to do with the amount of criticism Tendulkar gets for any failure. Its now about showing that Ponting has failures too

If this is the yardstick for ‘mediocrity’, then I’d love for India to produce such mediocre players. In fact, we should put out advertisements in our newspapers for mediocre players to come play for our team. Oh the overflowing cup of irony!
