These kinds of petitions for elephants or hundreds of different bird,fish,etc. species doesn't even get a blink from most desis. But come to a creature that indicates or indicated status, like tiger,peackock,lotus,etc. and Indians are great at creating a commotion about it. This attitude needs to change and perhaps a better understanding of ecology needs to form in India.
