Mountain or flat - Hold the bat vertically and have one of the captains call either mountain or flat. Then you spin the bat vertically and let it fall free. After falling, which ever side of the bat is facing up is the right call and if the captain who called has called right he has won the toss. The last number of the bill - If you don't have a coin but instead you have a bill(note). One captain will guess whether the last digit of the bill's unique code found at the bottom right corner is odd or even. If the captain guesses it right he wins the toss. The code is found in the bottom left corner in the US dollar bill. Aim at the bat - Each captain has to throw a ball aiming at a bat placed about 10 feet away. Who ever hits the bat most times in 3, 5, 7, etc turns wins the toss. Which hand has the rock - One of the two captains will secretly hide one rock in one of his hands while the other has to guess whether the rock is in the right or the left hand. This is good because you don't need any special item to toss. In america, I have seen kids do the famous rock-paper-scissors to decide the toss.

No one carries money while playing gully cricket especially the very young kids. I didn't have my own wallet with real money until I was in 8th grade and I have been playing cricket since like the first grade. Students were not allowed to carry money at my school. Parents would pay for lunch money every month so when we played cricket in school, we just used one of these substitute methods to toss.

And this Toss is the most prone to cheating :haha: Sometimes its a really tiny pebble, and then close your fist and then swish it all over and flay arms over head, behind back etc and then you have to guess if the pebble is still within the closed fist. Most of the times they'll try to keep the pebble in and then drop it slyly AFTER the toss is called - depending on what was called :haha:
