Any recommendations? What are the good onez? I am looking for the regulation onez on-the-strip (Bellagio, Alladin, Luxor, etc etc) Recommendations? Thingz to watch out for? What did you like/dislike... Not interested in Gambling much, but will just tour for the "experience" and just gamble a few dollarz for fun

Haha..Now this is my kinda thread. Lets see. Where you want to stay depends on a few factors: 1) Are you going to drive to Vegas(assuming you live in AZ, CA etc). If you do then your best bet is Treasure Island who has a seamless entry into parking lot. 2) How comfortable are you walking around? If you can walk for long then pick hotels at end of strip. If you would much rather not walk so much pick hotels in the center of the strip. 3) Whats your budget. Luxor, TI, Monte Carlo can all be booked under 100$ a night, excluding Friday/Sat. I have stayed at 5 of these bad boys - Monte Carlo, Treasure Island, Ballys, Luxor, MGM Grand. They were all very good and I didnt have any problems with any of those. I can give you a few recommendation on what show to see, places to eat/buffett, do you wanna do shopping etc etc. But what would matter more is what are you looking to do in Vegas and whats your budget like? Also how many days would you be there?

Thinking maybe 3-4 days...3 will be a good assumption probably
Also I hear bad to go at times when there are major conventionz...since thatz when hotel ratez get jacked up, crowded etc. Where do I find out if such thingz are going on at Vegas?

This might be a little lengthy response and I would still miss some pointers so I suppose I will make more than one replies. Before I say anything about Vegas you have to make a mental picture of the geography of Las Vegas strip. It is about 3 miles long(or seems so everytime I walk). Broadly speaking the strip starts at Mandalay Bay and ends at Stratosphere. Mandalay Bay starts the South side of the strip and Stratoshphere the Northern side. The best part of the strip is from Mandalay Bay to Treasure Island. Try to stay in this part. This should effectively rule out hotels like Circus Circus, Sahara, Riviera, Stratosphere etc. Now the hotels mentioned are all very good just that you will be a little away from the buzz of the strip. Since you would be flying you would be getting down at McCaran Airport which is quite close to Strip, about 5 miles or so. I dont think you need to rent a car unless you plan to go around sightseeing outside Strip. You can take a taxi and that will drop you right at the hotel. But if you feel comfortable do rent a car. Every hotel provides complimentary parking service so thats not an issue at all. Now for the hotels. You can broadly divide the hotels into 3 categories: 1) 150$ a night plus. This will include hotels like Mirage, Bellagio, Paris, Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Wynn etc. 2) 100$ a night plus. This will include hotels like Luxor, New York new York, Monte Carlo, MGM Grand, Ballys, Treasure Island, Planet Hollywood(now Aladdin) 3) Between 75-100$. This will include hotels like Flamingo, Harrahs, Imperial Palace etc. Where I want to stay is decided often by the amount of time I am going to spend inside my room. If I am doing a training or seminar etc then I spend the day attending that and in the evening take a stroll on the strip, have dinner etc. This means the room comfort doesnt mean much to me aside from clean bathroom and a nice bed. In such cases I take mostly the hotel from 2nd lot - Treasure Island, Luxor etc. However if I am taking a vacation and intend to chill in the swimming pool etc then I dont mind picking the first lot, which incidentally has never happened lol as even for my vacation I love being outdoors. I would recommend any of the hotels from the 2nd lot really. Of the hotels that I have stayed at here are the plus and minus, if it helps you at all: 1) Treasure Island: Very nice location. The best part of strip starts from here. Right next to Mirage on one side and Las Vegas shopping mall on the other. Very approachable from interstate(though you may not use it if you come from McCarran). Rooms are great. My only criticism of TI is that its room are relatively small. 2) Luxor: Beautiful from inside and outside. Is built on Egyptian theme and has some mummy replica etc, in case you are into it. Rooms are very nice and the bathroom was splendid. Specially loved the transparent doors. I also remember the complimentary toiletry(shampoo, conditioner etc) as very nice. For that matter thats true for most vegas hotels. Drawback, its practically on one end of the strip and after one more hotel(Mandalay Bay) the strip ends. 3) Monte Carlo: Beautiful, spacious rooms, quite central location. If you can get a room with a view then offers a great sight. Parking here is a bit painful. 4) Ballys: Cleanest and most spacious rooms that I have stayed at in Vegas. Location is perhaps the best. Rght opposite to Bellagio and Caesars and next to Paris. If you like room with extra space check Ballys. For that matter when you book your room click on the room details and they often tell you if it is 425, 650 or 750 square feet room. 5) MGM Grand: Most easily accessible from McCarran Airport. Is perhaps the biggest property on the strip and has a lot to offer in that sense. The drawback also stems from the fact that since it is so big there is a chance you may get a bit tired just coming out of it. I will write you more about shows, food and shopping tomorrow.

Don't book a hotel in Vegas. If you need a few hours of sleep' date= things are much cheaper when you are in the city. It's practically insane to book a vacation to Vegas.

I have ended up getting some really good deals in some of the casino hotels there on the few occasions I've been there.

Meanwhile, Will wait for Lurks to come back and post more info on the other shows, activities etc

Alright so I am finally done with weekend shopping, made myself some Seattle's Best Hazelnut coffee and kick this off once again. This time I shall concentrate on two things - shows and food. Shows: Broadly the shows can be divided into two - free and paid. Free shows are hosted by the hotels free of charge and anyone can watch them. The main attractions here are: a) Fountain show outside Bellagio. It is done every 15 minutes and generally is observed best in evening though they do perform it in daytime as well. b) Volcano outside Mirage: Generally done every 30 minutes. c) Sirens of Treasure Island: Generally done every 1.5 hours starting at 5:30 pm d) Flying Masquerades at Rio: Not sure of the timing on this one. e) Fall of Atlantis at Caesars Palace: Every hour on the hour(10, 11, 12 and so on) My personal rankings of these would be: 1) Bellagio Fountains 2) Sirens at TI 3) Flying Masquerades at Rio 4) Fall of Atlantis at Caeasars 5) Mirage Volcano. A tip here would be to watch the Bellagio Fountain from the top of Eiffel Tower right from the street in Paris Hotel. These are the free shows. The paid shows can also be classified in a few groups: a) Musicals: If you have a bit of fancy for musicals, specially if you like your ABBA and Beatles then check out Mamma Mia(Mandalay Bay), Love(Mirage), Producers(Paris). The last one is a Broadway show. b) Acrobatics by Cirque De Soleil: This has become all the rage these days with atleast 4 hotels using this one form or the other. Bellagio has O, MGM has KA, Treasure Island has Mystere, Wynn has Le Reve. There are atleast two other Cirque show - Love(Mirage) which is more a musical & Jumanity(New York New York) which is more an adult show. Of all these shows O at Bellagio is probably the best followed by Mystere. c) Variety shows: The big players here are Danny Gains(Mirage), Blue Man Show(Venetian), Carrot Top(Luxor), George Wallace(Flamingo), Jubilee(Ballys) etc. Apart from Blue Man show which is more mime and effects, others are broadly comedy show. My personal favorite in here is Jubilee at Ballys, which I must warn you is adult theme, but it is also the longest running show in Vegas. Ah and there is one at Planet Hollywood called Step-up based on dance and hip hop. I beleive there is a movie on the theme out as well. d) Magic show: There are a few, Lance Burton comes to mind, but frankly I have never seen them. If I was your travel agent and had to create an evening plan for you this is what I would do.(I am assuming you would be caught up during the day and come to hotel around 5-6ish, have a shower and get ready). Night 1: Have a nice little buffet at one of the hotels(will write about food tomorrow). Say 7-8. Then walk on the strip end to end catching atleast 3 shows, Bellagio, Mirage and Treasure Island(they are all close by). Looking at Vegas from the top of Eiffel Tower is also recommended. Most likely you would be done by 10-11. Night 2: Have evening dinner at one of the good restaurants(7-8). Then catch a show, generally starts around 8:30pm. Once done go to the hotel or just take a walk. Night 3: Catch a show or just walk around a bit. Gamble if you want. Shop if you want. Speaking of shopping my suggestion would be try the shopping arcade at Planet Hollywood and Las Vegas Malls next to Treasure Island. Dont be overawed by high prices, keep looking and you will get soem really sweet deals. Okays thats it for today. Will write about food tomorrow. xxx

This is a great Lurker Planet guide :hail: When you write about food, tell me if there are good places for bakery, ice creams and such desserts stuff as well :haha: Do you have recommendations for Restaurants where I can get some Vegetarian options as well?
