Playing XI for this series.

I think this should be playing xi for this series.

Vijay/Shaw (when back)

Agarwal

Pujara

Kohli

Vihari

Rohit/?

Pant

Ashwin

Shami

Ishant

Bumrah

Agarwal needs to be called back. I can't play Rahul and Rahane for 2nd test. Idk who is backup for #6. I want vihari to play at #5. You can't go with 5 bowlers because our batting is too weak so rohit might get few more chance. Give me your xi.

Too many playing XI threads already. Once Shaw is back, I'd like to see this lineup:

Pujara

Shaw

Vihari

Kohli

Rahane/Rohit

Pant

Jaddu

Ashwin/Kuldeep

Shami

Ishant

Bumrah

On most pitches, we need 5 bowlers. This lineup has 5 bowlers + 1 part-timer (Vihari), and there is batting till 8. Pant is not good enough to bat at 6 to be honest, but he cannot do much worse than the batsmen currently out of form like Rahul, Vijay, Rahane, etc.

Mods merge this thread if you want.

If pujara opens then there is risk of him getting out in first few overs and if he goes then who will make ball old for other batsman? Vihari at 3? too high i guess #5 is best for vihari and there is no need of 5 bowlers when you know 5th bowler will mostly bowl max of 7-8 overs so why not let vihari bowl that?

Vihari has batted at 3 several times in FC. chepu is anyway under risk of coming out early to bat. might as well as have him open. that's why I stuck him in the opening slot. agarwal is aggressive, but can fall early - which makes pujara a default opener.

In the absence of Pandya, it is relatively difficult to go with 5 bowlers esp since the batting is not optimized

if we can optimize the batting and  if we lose the 1st test, we would probably have to go with 5 bowlers .... if we win or draw the first test, we may go with 4 bowlers + someone like Vihari who can chip in

:dontknow:

What about jadeja as an all rounder

Depends up on conditions and the status of the series

Posted (edited)

1. Shaw

2. Ashwin

3. Pujara

4. Kohli

5. Vihari

6. Rohit

7. Pant

8. Kuldeep / Bhuvi

9. Ishant

10. Shami

11. Bumrah

--  Rahul and Vijay are walking wickets.  Ashwin won't do any worse. He can defend decently and play with the straight bat

--  We get to play 5 bowlers this way.

your strategy is novel. quite bradman-like - he inverted the batting order when scoring one of his great knocks (270 I think). would like to see jaddu given consideration - his batting is better than that hack Rohit.
