He wasn't a very average cricketer although he wasn't exceptional like Kapil Dev. I have seen him play and I would have him in my  Indian ODI 11. He was one of our performer  in 1983 win. He was also a useful contributor

with the bat.

 

A utility cricketer. He could open the bowling in both formats. Watch his spell in NZ , although that was in test, probably at Dunedin iirc.

Was he better then Jaddu, pandya, robin singh,irfan ?

Madan was a medium pacer. Jaddu spinner as you are already aware.

 

Madan ,  unlike those you mentioned has performed in WC . His highlight was the wicket of Vic Richards which turned the match in India's favor. He was excellent in WC which we won.

 

Jaddu is not comparable as they bowl different pace, also Jaddu did not contribute as much as Madan did in important tournament like WC. He has outperformed Irfan Pathan and Singh as well. I like players who perform when it matters especially in important tourneys.
