Take today’s game for instance. Pant at No 3 with field restrictions might have been very   useful. Even quickfire 40 would have wrested the initiative.

Maybe Pant can open. That’s the only possibility I see. But with the hitting abilities in such serious doubt India has no choice but to go back to traditional pinch hitting mode.

move pant to open and jadhav at 4 (he can't bat anywhere below 5 since he lacks the power game). klr is better off playing in t20 mode at 6 instead of playing like a nervous insect at opening. have dhongi at 6 (because we can't get rid of him) and pandya at 7; use pandya as floater.

Having been saying since day 1 of his inclusion to get him open ,but NO .On these flat track..Pant has the best chance of scoring quick runs.

Stop putting a hack as opener and thinking that it will pay off . You need to be still tech sound to open even with field restrictions . Pant has zero off side capabilities . Do you think he has any chance as opener when new ball is moving

We should open with pant he can really give us good starts with just 2 ourside the circle ,its worth a try ,rahul is struggling to open anyway,cant keep making 28 in first ten in important chases

I think this Indian team looks so strangled. The batsmen are constantly worried about next batsmen while playing. Dhawan for freewheeling character. In his absence I think Pant can play that role. We need Kaluwithana at this point.
