Wonder how this would affect figures and how many views they will get. Cricket already feeling the heat in England with women's football getting 10x as many viewers

The Cricket World cup has been nowhere in the mainstream media in England.

 

The ashes will get 10 times the coverage even if England do win the World Cup. Test cricket is seen as the real deal here.

 

The BBC have really pushed women's football onto the masses this year, it's been on their main channel BBC1 and has been the most reported on sport on their website.

 

Cricket cannot compete with a 2 hour sport like football. Even T20 requires over 3 hours.

 

If England do get to the final then more people will tune in than usual but it still won't be as popular as the Rugby World Cup later this year.

 

Cricket suffers from an almost 'uncool ' reputation here. It is perceived as a slow game played by rich people. Rugby is also a posh sport but has the athleticism and speed to make up for it.

Actually Sky has invested a lot in cricket in England..only comparable to what ITC (Wills) did to Indian cricket from 1983 onwards..Sky Sports package costs a whopping 25 pounds a month and add it to the base price any package with sky tv and broadband is minimum 72 pounds..ie 850 pounds a year contract (and you cannot cancel in middle and not pay as there will be summons from court and bailiffs at your door as its a 1 yr contract)..thats how they recoup the investment..take out sky sports and sky has nothing (prem league + cricket main bread earners)..hence its becoming an issue for them to telecast free on air

I expect Wimbledon final (that's gonna happen on the same day) to get better ratings in England than World Cup final. The first week of Wimbledon so far has been really good with lot of fun matches and some really good stories......the young 15 year old American girl Gauff has already been a huge story.
