mister
Exactly a fortnight ago, a youngster was preferred over someone who’s considered one of the most dominant batsmen in world cricket - Virender Sehwag. went on to make history on Australian soil. Sehwag’s future, as a one-day player, was considered over. But one had to be at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai yesterday to witness one of Sehwag’s most memorable knocks. Sehwag proved his iconic player status for Delhi Daredevils with a 33-ball 100 for ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd) against BPCL to take them into the DY Patil Twenty20 finals. Chasing 179, ONGC got home in the 17th over, and with the flurry of boundaries and sixes, the loud music never stopped playing. The crowd at the picturesque stadium in Nerul, witnessed one of Sehwag’s most dominating innings ever, which contained 11 boundaries and eight sixes. To watch viru Despite not being a regular national team member off late, Sehwag’s presence in the match was enough to bring in over 30,000 spectators. “I have been watching cricket for long now, but the way Viru performed today, it was something I had never seen. It was astounding!†said a visibly excited young college student. Some of his sixes would have also cleared the huge Australian grounds and the attack he scored against wasn’t an ordinary one. The BPCL attack boasted the likes of Swapneel Hazare, Rajesh Verma, Pragyan Ojha, Sairaj Bahutule and Abhishek Nayar. In the fourth over of the ONGC innings, Sehwag smashed Mumbai seamer Verma for 30 runs (three sixes and two fours). Sehwag’s onslaught completely overshadowed another fine innings, that of Mumbai all-rounder Nayar. Nayar scored 83 runs off 48 balls for BPCL. Viru’s spin Before embarking on the leather bashing, Sehwag rolled his arms to end the day with the best figures for his team. He scalped three wickets at the cost of 24 runs. ONGC wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra found himself short of words to describe Sehwag’s performance. “I have no words to describe the innings. It was something only he could do. That’s the best thing about Viru, wherever he plays, be it , Delhi or his company, he gives it all,†said the former wicketkeeper. Sehwag termed this innings as one of his better innings and he also felt that the wicket was excellent for stroke play. In the finals, ONGC were chasing a target of 187 set by Air (Delhi) and needed 27 runs in 17 balls with two wickets in hand at the time of going to print. Even in the final, Sehwag had blasted 83 runs in 36 balls providing the much needed boost to the ONGC innings. Earlier Air had defeated State Bank of Travancore, to enter the finals. http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article§id=59&contentid=200803122008031202135229490ebc9c7&pageno=1 Link to comment

Ram
If Sehwag also comes into form in ODIs, then God save the rest of the teams. Already, we look quite hard to beat and now if Sehwag fires too, the bowlers better renew their insurances or upgrade their plans. I am quietly confident/hopeful that Sehwag can re-create some of the old magic that made him our best batsman in 2003/04 Link to comment

I am quietly confident/hopeful that Sehwag can re-create some of the old magic that made him our best batsman in 2003/04 Sehwag has now grown by years together, so its very difficult for him to repeat the same firing physically. But not impossible, though. Meaningless match and meaningless score against a weak bowling attack Sorry doesn't count agreed, but atleast he can give a good start if he is in form in ODIs. fineleg
Sehwag has been given plenty of opportunities in ODIs. 183 ODI matches and a 31 average only! Link to comment
