Shattered ? 26 is not the age to get shattered. He must know that, within the next 12-15 month, 3 or 4 places will be up for grabs in the Indian middle order. All he has to do is focus on making loads of runs whenever he plays in FC cricket.

Selection for SA series unwise, says Kirti Azad Darbhanga: Former Cricketer and selector of the Indian cricket team Kirti Azad today dubbed the selection for South African series as ''unwise''. Sharing his views over the selection of Indian team, Mr Azad said here that selections should be made on the basis of consistency and performance of the players. He said the selectors have infact not utilised their 'brain' while and did their job without analysing the performance of the players. Pinpointing some of the 'wrong' selections, Mr Azad said Gautam Gambhir, who had made maximum runs during the Australian series, had been kept out of South African tour. Putting the selectors in the wrong box for selecting Yuraj Singh in the team, he said Yuraj 'failed' miserably during Austrailian tour. Refering to the statement of Dilip Vengsarkar, the chief selector of the Indian team in which he had stated that Yuraj Singh will have to put extra labour to be a Test cricketer, Mr Azad said it was great irony that the same selector had given place to Yuraj Singh in the Test series. He further said the Australian players went to the pavilion due to the superb bowling of Pravin Kumar. However, he had not been given place in the team. Non-selection of players like Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Pankaj Singh like players even after their commendable performance would affect their spirit, he added. UNI

Kumble denies senior-junior divide in the team Anil Kumble, India's Test captain, has denied that there are differences between the players in his squad after Mahendra Singh Dhoni's recent comments defending the dropping of seniors for the ODIs against Australia. "We don't look at each other as a senior or a junior. It is one unit." Kumble said in Chennai ahead of two Test series against South Africa. "We did well in Australia and will seek to maintain the momentum against South Africa at home." Kumble said that the matches would be contested in the right spirit. "There is this demarcation line. We will not cross it. Our focus will be on cricket." Gary Kirsten, who took over as India's coach on March 1, said he had been looking forward to working with the team. "I spent a few weeks with the team [as a consultant] in Australia. I will be taking that process forward." Kirsten felt an assignment against his former team could not be considered an advantage, saying that "in the age of television, everyone knows everything about the other teams." He also said that Paddy Upton, India's mental conditioning coach who previously worked with the South African team, would not divulge details about them. "There are certain issues that are confidential, like the players' personal lives." Meanwhile Kumble expected a keenly contested series. "The South Africans have done well in India on the previous occasions. It should be a good challenge." Looking ahead to the Chepauk Test, Kumble said the pitch "should take spin as the game progresses", while adding that Rahul Dravid would bat at his customary No. 3 position. The first Test against South Africa begins on March 26. http://content-gulf.cricinfo.com/indvrsa/content/story/343614.html

Practice makes Team India perfect The Anil Kumble-led Indian cricket team had a strenuous three hour-long practice session in hot and humid conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday ahead of the first of the three Test-series against South Africa beginning in Chennai on March 26. Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh as well as paceman Ishant Sharma, who is not in the team for the match, were seen going to video analyst S Ramakrishnan, who them the slow motion clippings of their batting and bowling at the nets on Sunday. Wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh, who were cleared for the series after fitness tests, were also seen undergoing the rigours throughout the session. Left-arm spinner Murali Kartik, who is out of the squad due to injury, was seen walking from the pavilion to the practising area with a crepe bandage tied to his left leg. After two days of rains, there was bright sunshine on Sunday and the groundsmen were seen watering the pitch and rolling it.
