Ind in WC KOs

2019 ends with question marks over Ind's ability to do well in KOs of ICC WCs (except if playing vs. Asian teams). Like SA of the past, this team could shine in bilaterals and round robin phase but fail to rise up in pressure games.

Among the culprits is the top order, which appears to be playing for milestones. Whether batting first or chasing, their approach does not change. They will rack up runs in bilaterals and likely to fail when it counts.  This approach also denies opportunities to others, who are thrown under the spotlight all of a sudden in KO games when the top order fails, to develop their games.

In the lead up to the T20 WC in 2020, I would like to see:

a) Pandya fit and back. As he is kind of the guy who can win KO games

b) Pant tried as an opener / in top order to do a Gilchrist and play with less pressure relatively

c) More chances given to wkt taking bowlers as a great spell is more likely to win Ind a KO game. Was good to see Saini today

d) Improvements in fielding

e) etc

If the trend continues, we may as well have to start supporting other Asian teams to make it to the KOs so Ind can beat them. Playing WENA in KO could be a handful :((

A T20 11 along these lines can be tried:

KL (needs to play more freely but being in and out of the 11 may be influencing his game)

Pant (to play his natural game)

Kohli (to play per situation)

Rohit (last ICC tourney unless his form stays till 2023)

Iyer/Agarwal/? (someone who can not only hit but also play sensibly)

Pandya

Jadeja/Sundar/Dubey/? (someone who can bowl, bat and field, and is in form)

3 bowlers based on form from: Bhuvi, Shami, Saini, Kuldeep, Chahal, etc.

Bumrah

what the heck is a Wena lol

WI, Eng, NZ, and Aus (like SENA in Tests) .... these four teams could be strong contenders for the T20WC title in Aus in Oct-Nov 2020 :dontknow:
