DomainK
This is the best way of comparing popularity of players. Google is the world's most popular search engine....lets compare some players' popularity on Google...i.e. which player's name is searched the most on Google. Presenting a comparison between India's batting stars: Sachin, Sourav, Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag: No points for guessing who is the winner....Sachin wins by a huge margin. Guess what, Sachin beats Ganguly even in Calcutta. Yes, even Bengalies prefer Sachin over dada. Have a look: Link to comment

theguyinallblue
it seems Ganguly will always Lag behind in the Legacy among the cricketing world and among the general cricket loving public... Its not his fault though..he is not talented enough.. People of UK are very lazy..:giggle: Link to comment
DomainK
Here its is between Tendulkar, Lara and Ponting. Yes, Ponting exists....somewhere. Lara and Tendulkar are almost on par with Tendulkar dominating mostly, but Lara getting big peaks in between. Its not entirely fair as Lara gets huge advantage from the popular cricket game named after him. I have pointed out why Lara was in news during these peaks. Link to comment

varun
Problem is, people rarely search with their full names. Here's one with just the last names: Link to comment
PaiN_KiLLeR
Problem is' date=' people rarely search with their full names. Here's one with just the last names: [/quote'] But then Ganguly is such a common surname, whereas Tendulkar and Sehwag are not. That's why the results for Gangs is much higher if you only use the surname. Link to comment

Only first name or only last name would be misleading. Link to comment

Kartikey
Also on Orkut, if u check the largest communities of plyers, they are: Sachin - 391, 879 fans Dada - 150, 551 Rahul - 146, 767 Dhoni - 100, 716 Yuvraj - 71, 787 Irfan - 43, 964 Sehwag - 25, 970 Kumble - 17, 704 Laxman - 4656 But obviously u have to take into account that most of these people are from the big cities and the age demographic is like 18-30 so this doesnt really represent India but still it gives us a good idea. DomainK
Even the so called King of bollywood is nowhere near Sach.. as far as the no. of members in Orkut. The popularity of any Bollywood hero is limited to the Hindi speaking population of the world. But SRT is an international celebrity. An Australian or a West Indian would not know who SRK is, but they would be big fans of SRT. Link to comment
