He started as keeper and even though not cut out for keeping for long overs in test match cricket, he was still international class keeper who could keep fine in t20s, 50 overs. He wasn't great to be part of the odi team is another topic. But we can't expect a player who started of as a wicket keeper to give off his gloves when the guy is trying to make a comeback to Indian team in which ever way possible.

 

Keeping to me is the toughest job in cricket. Period. You are supposed squat and stay vigilant for over 3 hours in 50 overs cricket or all day in test and then, not allowed much rest to go out like how players do on the field. 

 

A keeper, be it a piss poor test match wicket keeper can never be asked to give up gloves. They make for more than decent wicket keepers still in ODI/T20  cricket. He was way ahead than Rahul Dravid/KL Rahul types of wicket keepers and below Karthik/Dhoni/Saha in test cricket. Right in the middle  basically. 

 

 

Decent carrier. I am glad he got to win the Ranji few years ago and also scored well that year. Happy retirement Parthiv.
