Shanghai IMO is his weakest (not counting the short movies he made alongside Zoya, Kashyap et all). It had some beautifully shot riot scenes and an entertaining performance from Farooque Shaikh but it was nowhere near the hard-hitting film that it wanted to be. Z made in 1969 was a far superior movie based on the same book. Edited June 30, 2021 by Jimmy Cliff

Being in the company of KJo and Zoya, he is one among them - eminent intellectual filmmaker. Among recent non-formula movies, road movies - Highway and NH10 were good. Avoiding all prominent Bolly moviemakers now, they are all overrated

Avoiding all prominent Bolly moviemakers now, they are all overrated I liked his short with Nawaz in BT. In Ghost Stories too, his short could have been a decent creature horror segment but he shat on it with it's heavy handed sociopolitical allegory. Never seen Lust Stories nor am I gonna watch Sandeep/Pinky. Not a fan of Highway except for its music but liked NH10. But my favorite would be Piku, if that counts as a road movie. Of all the well-known film makers that made their debut in 2000s, only Sriram Raghavan is yet to decline. Probably because he deals purely in genre and doesn't give a crap about anything else.
