I never said Ashwin underperformed in that match. But lack of fourth pacer caused all other three fast bowlers be below par. It is not Ashwin's fault but Indian fast bowlers need that fourth fast bowler as a cushion in case one of them is having bad match.

To take 20 wickets India needs 4 fast bowlers and Jadeja is in the team more for his batting. How will Ashwin fit into the team?

This seems like an effort to paper over the cracks. The reason India lost the WTC final wasn't because of the team selection, it is because of horrendous batting performance in the second innings after almost achieving parity in the first innings. When are we going to agree that our loss was due to incompetent batting. India lost the test series in NZ in 2020 in similar circumstances despite playing the so called right XI. Our batting struggled in the second innings in NZ as well. Let's look at it this way, India were 140/3 in the first innings and got bowled out for 220. NZ got a slender lead of 30 in the first innings, Ashwin bowled 15 overs for 2/28. Don't think a third pacer would have done better. India's main pacer Bumrah was out of form and did not pick a single wicket. Ishant was brilliant and so was Shami.

In the second innings India got bundled out for 170 again a batting flop. Now all the 3 batters who were responsible for the collapses and did not take any responsibility after getting starts are playing in the XI but we want our best bowler in that game to be dropped? Actually going by what happened in the game, India actually should have played an extra batter instead of one of the spinners.
