He got out in the 20th over and put pressure on Kohli/DK to finish. If he had gotten out earlier, Kohli, DK and Ashwin would have finished earlier. If not for Kohli brilliance, we wouldn’t have made it to KOs. He failed in all other matches except the SFs in batting. Average

Average Nope. The game was lost at 31/4, where he helped to stage a 100 runs p'ship. He was the one who started the assault. With 3 wkts, he also put a brake on Pak's scoring, where the score could have been 180-190. So that also can be added to his score to understand his impact. 40 + 20 to 25 runs saved = 60-65 off 37 balls ... Kohli's was more like a fluke knock (and he made Ind pay when it counted the most in SFs so that negates any positives from that knock). I am not rating performances blindly based based on results of the game but how a player stood up in the given moment. Even if Ind had lost, which it probably deserved too, it would still be a great clutch AR performances.
vvvslaxman Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 Sundar is building his reputation well. Few clutch performances in his intl. Career
Ultimate_Game Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Sundar, Pandya, Bumrah, Arshdeep have been clutch. I'm liking what I've seen so far of Jaiswal and Rinku. Need to give more chances to Abhishek and Parag. Samson and KL Rahul are cut from the same cloth and are anti-clutch. Siraj is another one who wilts under pressure and starts acting like a headless chicken. rollingstoned 1

But gotta see them perform for India I am more confident of Sai Sudarshan if we look at his growth. 1. With very little experience in T20 from a batter with not much power hitting ability he is able to hit sixes regularly & score consistently. - IPL final , last TNPL knock show us the improvement. 2. Went to English county and performed better than any other indian who played there last season. Shows better technique. 3. Went to SA and looked best among the younger lot . Has good defence, good back foot play , timing , places the ball well and looks like now playing the cut shot with power. The patent shot the on drive from the stumps which races away to boundary is so good to watch for the timing and placement . Should be in ODI at #3 and tests soon. Looked bit unsettled by Burger when he was attacked with bodyline short balls , but can overcome that . Should be among the top 3 young batsmen in India if he keeps growing. Even to get a ODI cap ideally one has to possess the capacity hit sixes when required , get boundaries by placement, play attacking shots both against pace and spin. What the knocks mentioned above show that he is developing his game to have different gears, which can play in ODI game when required. Soon the teams will target 350 + in ODI , so having the ability to change gears will become a necessity , BTW, Never advocated his inclusion in T20. With his technique he is a fine #3 prospect in ODI as he has both good defence as well as now developing the attacking game . For ODI , most of the top batters need to be better than just Boom or Bust which may be OK in T20. The ODI attack of top teams will be mostly test bowlers so need to have a decent defence and the ability to get boundaries regularly. Edited August 1, 2024 by prudent_kreeda

He has the game for it.

He's the perfect no. 3 for ODIs for us to take over from Kohli. Jaiswal and Gill as openers and Sai at 3 in ODIs. Won't play him in T20s though as there're more explosive options. And if we force Gill in T20s, you can't have others like Sai or Ruturaj in the T20 team.

And don't know why we're still persisting with Siraj in white-ball cricket. Harshit, Nattu. Mohsin etc. are better options who deserve to get a shot. Every year Siraj is one of the least economical bowlers in IPL and still gets selected for shorter formats. Don't understand it at all. And it's not as if he's a gun fielder or can contribute with the bat

Let's see how he shows up in this IPL. If he re-creates the performance from his first IPL season or is close to it, would like to see him get a chance. He has a higher ceiling than likes of Avesh.
