He devised an effective plan to dislodge an oppressive invading force that is disproportionately more powerful and also the sole super power of the world at that time. Imagine US Russia and Europe unifying as a political entity ( just for comparison not grounded in reality) and occupiying India how would you fight against them after your armed forces are wiped out in the initial exchanges. You do civil disobedience, unifying optics like satyagraha etc. He wanted unity in opposing the occupation thats all.

Nothing more nothing less.

Effectiveness of that plan and execution is the question.

Very interesting podcast asking some relevant questions.

1) You know that famous story of him being thrown out of the train. If non whites were not allowed, how did he book the tickets ?

2) His non violence approach apparently shook the British establishment. Where exactly was it shaken up ? 1 million British dies in WWI. There were less than 100k British in India. It took another WW for British to get destroyed and for them being unable to rule India. So perhaps Hitler was more responsible for India’s independence.

Rule stated that they can't travel in first class but one can't stop anyone from buying a first class ticket so train booking clerk stuck to his rule.  Also he also may have thought that he probably was buying it for someone else if u consider other argument.

Gandhi was a genius to use this matter to his advantage & stayed in Africa & got popularity & immesne PR....  Man was way ahead of its time.

he was a strategic and tactical genius IMO. one can debate whether he was truly mahatma, moral force for good, etc. but I regard his political acumen as exemplary even though I don't agree with him on some important matters.
