Indian cricket players - Broken Arrows? Crock watch!

Recommended Posts

Agree fully Dhondy. The real cricket writers like Chandrahas Choudhury and Amit Varma sadly are writing on other subjects now, and that number is decreasing rapidly - and being overwhelmed by the idiotic noises coming from most others who think that they can write because somebody shoved a thesaurus up their arse. I can't agree any more on your take on that. A real shame. The one upside though is I spend less time these days reading the likes of CI, Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald given the halfwits writing on some of those sites.

You might not have been interested in the IPL or the coming lot of meaningless ODIs. But you simply cannot give away test cricket. At least I can't. I don't care what a cricketer earns and how, who makes money cultivating cricket gossips and what nots.
Chandan, how much would you care about a test match if Dinda, P Kumar, and Goni are leading our bowling attack because Zaheer, Ishant, and Sreesanth have succumbed to injuries caused by an overdose of ODIs/T20 and lack of proper fitness regimes? Won't you be frustrated if Tendulkar has to pull out of crucial test match because Ambani wants to rival Mallaya? Even recently, yes Tendulkar won us the CB series, great but because of that grueling month could not play a part in South Africa test matches. I would trade 5 CB series wins for a Tendulkar hundred against a rampaging Steyn and Ntini on the Motera wicket(not saying it would have happened, but it wasn't even given a chance).

Maybe if the squad is heavily depleted, the interest will recede in India matches and I may get more interested in Aus-SA or Ashes more. But I think the players will understand that too. Sachin has already pulled out of triseries and Asia cup and might see him in tests only now. The bowlers also, having earned the financial stability in the first year, might look to manage their work-loads more carefully from now on. Because everyone knows that if the interest in international cricket dies, interest in IPL also won't last long. Sachin might have thought that it was his last chance to win something big in the CB series and gave a last shot to it. Fair enough. I didn't like it one bit when he missed SA series but I think even he wouldn't have liked it. In case of Zaheer, it is really baffling how he got injured in just a year playing for his country while he was fine when he played each and every match of Indian domestic season as well as English county season. He has to look after himself. Even Mallya might not prefer a broken arrow from next year.

We are already seeing the effects of excessive cricket on the likes of Ishant Sharma. Anybody who has ever pushed himself to achieve anything worthwhile will know for a fact that money can never motivate you like hunger for excellence does, or gnawing insecurity does. Take away both, make millionaires out of a lot of newbies still looking for their station in life, and what are you left with? .
Very well said. This is so true, and we are gonna lose talent (young talent) like crazy because of this big time commercialization thats going on.

Sreesanth doubtful for Bangladesh trip A left side strain leaves Sreesanth, the Indian fast bowler, in doubt for the Kitply Cup in Bangladesh, which starts on June 8. Sreesanth was expected to join the team on Saturday, ahead of their departure for Bangladesh on Sunday, but has instead been told to report to the medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. MRI scans confirmed the strain and revealed he was suffering from some effusion in the region. Sreesanth's participation in the series will be decided after he is assessed at the NCA. Sreesanth had suffered the strain during Kings XI Punjab's final league match in the Indian Premier League, against Rajasthan Royals in Mohali on May 28. His gave away 44 runs from his three overs in that game, which Punjab won, but bowled only one in the subsequent semi-final as Chennai Super Kings chased down an easy target. Sreesanth featured in all 15 of Punjab's matches in the IPL, and finished with 19 wickets in the tournament, making him joint-second on the leading wicket-takers' chart with Shane Warne, and three behind Sohail Tanvir's 22. Sreesanth had been at the centre of a controversy during the inaugural edition of the Twenty20 league, having been slapped by his India team-mate Harbhajan Singh after the match between Punjab and the Mumbai Indians in Mohali. Harbhajan was barred from taking further part in the tournament, and the BCCI banned him for five ODIs, while Sreesanth was asked to improve his on-field behaviour. India play their first match of the tournament, a preparatory event ahead of the Asia Cup later this month, against Pakistan on June 10. No standby had been named in the squad for the tri-series, also involving hosts Bangladesh, and the Asia Cup, but with four other fast bowlers in RP Singh, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar and Irfan Pathan, a replacement might not be necessary. http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/3natbdesh/content/story/353819.html

Any news about our injured players, Sachin, Laxman, Zaheer, Sreeshanth..? I could find just one news about Sachin: Tendulkar to return from injury in charity matches in England LONDON — Sachin Tendulkar will play three matches for the Lashings World XI this season as part of his preparations for India's Test and limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The England-based charity fundraising team on Wednesday said Tendulkar would play matches on June 24, June 27 and July 4. Tendulkar is among a host of big names to have appeared for the Lashings World XI. Others include Muttiah Muralitharan, the leading Test bowler of all time, West Indies batting greats Brian Lara and Viv Richards and Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Tendulkar, who has scored more Test centuries (39) than any other batsman, skipped India's ongoing limited-overs series in Bangladesh because of a groin strain. -------------------------------------------------- This means he'll miss Asia cup too. I'm really glad that finally he is choosing the ODIs for himself. What kind of games are being played for Lashings--20 overs or 50 overs?

Sreesanth ruled out of Asia Cup Sreesanth, the Indian fast bowler, has been ruled out of the Asia Cup in Pakistan. Sreesanth, who also missed the Kitply Cup in Bangladesh, has not recovered from the side strain he sustained during the Indian Premier League. He was declared unfit for the tournament by Paul Close, the physio at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The BCCI said Sreesanth would begin a bowling rehabilitation programme on June 23, and added he would need at least two weeks before a full recovery. -------------------------------------------------------------- Well it is good for Indian test series in SL but don't know if it is good for Indian ODI team. If the same bowlers are going to play who played in Kitply cup, I fear for them to be ground out. I really fear for Ishant now. Any news about Zaheer?

Chandan, it's Ishant first year in cricket. He should and needs to get as many games under his belt as possible. Akram mentioned during commentary once that at the stage Ishant is, he needs to play as much as possible to hone his physique for fast bowling in order to achieve higher speeds and control. We can't keep treating all our fast bowlers like expensive china. Regarding Zaheer, I hope he's given up on ODIs(there is no way he will miss IPL) and is concentrating on the SL tour.

Apperance fees per ODI for Indian players : 2,50,000 = 6265 USD. What he would have earned for appearing in the three nations in BD = 18795 USD (don't know the prize money for the runner up) What he will earn in the six matches of the Asia Cup = 37590 USD IPL Salary : 6,25,000 USD Salary for three hours for bowl and giggle in IPL : 41667 USD A well-earned injury.

Camp for Test specialists Bangalore: A camp for the Indian team’s Test specialists is likely to be held at the National Cricket Academy. The dates for the camp is yet to be notified by the BCCI but it is reliably learnt that the camp might be held either next week or in July first week while the Indian ODI squad will be busy playing in the Asia Cup in Pakistan from June 24 to July 6. The camp will be a prelude to the tour of Sri Lanka starting from July 18 to August 29 that will feature three Tests and five ODIs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apprently Ganguly will miss part of this camp because he has gone to London with his ill father and might not return just before the camp starts. And what about Sachin? Won't he miss it too, if the news about his appearing for Lashings are true?

Sachin is in London for his rehabilitation...he will consult some Doctors there..i read somewhere that Dr. Joshi will be accompanying him.. also he will get some batting practice at Lashings...
Wonder which "test specialists" will attend that camp then!! Ganguly to miss part of conditioning camp 18th Jun 2008 14:00 IST Agencies Former captain Sourav Ganguly has been asked by the BCCI to attend the Indian team’s conditioning camp in Bangalore from June 24 for the tour of Sri Lanka beginning next month. imagesplayer-1275.gif However, Ganguly won't be able to attend the entire seven-days camp as he is leaving for London due to his father's illness. "He is going to London for treatment of his father (Chandidas Ganguly). He will have a word with the board, conveying about his availability. Most probably, he'll join the other seniors called for the camp --- Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman --- on June 25," CAB joint secretary Samar Paul said in Kolkata today. BCCI chief administrative officer Prof Ratnakar Shetty said that 10 senior players have been asked to report at the camp in Bangalore. "However, Ganguly has written to us citing some personal reasons and we'll consider that," Shetty said. Shetty, however, did not say when Ganguly will be available. "He's a senior player and knows what is best." When contacted, Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish said they are going to London tomorrow morning. "My father is a heart patient. Myself and Sourav are going there for a routine check-up. We'll be back in a week," Snehasish said. "We had also been there to get his check done a week ago," he said. India's tour of Sri Lanka begins on July 18. India will play three Tests and five one-day internationals in the July 18-August 29 tour.

Camp for Test specialists from June 24 Bangalore: The exclusive camp for Test specialists, that will also include seamers on a comeback trial, will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and the National Cricket Academy premises, here from June 24 to 30. Interestingly, Harbhajan Singh and S. Sreesanth, who got embroiled in the ‘slap-controversy’ during the DLF-Indian Premier League, are also expected to be part of the camp. Test skipper Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, V.V.S. Laxman, Zaheer Khan, Wasim Jaffer and Ramesh Powar will attend the camp. However, Ganguly will miss the initial part of the camp, while Zaheer has already arrived in the City. --------------------------------------------------------------- So Sachin is not a test specialist as yet? And how about the second keeper? Shouldn't they have called Karthik who is not in the ODI squad? Or has he already slipped from the radar of the selectors? In seamers--Zaheer and Sree and called but not Munaf. Why? Anyway, it'll be interesting to know if Anil Kumble is fully fit or not. He is really important for the coming test series vs SL, Australia and England at home.

i am also bewildered by the ommission of Munaf Patel... He is very good in tests.. Ishant Sharma should not be made to the donkey work in tests also...we need to rotate our resources... Don't know what is Ravi Shastri and Dev Whatmore doinf at NCA....we have total support staff at NCA.. they should have worked on Munaf Patel...R P Singh and Irfan Pathan.. these three need to get their speed and form back soon..
