Guest HariSampath
i visit this forum & bharat-rakshak.com forum/website(though i am not a member there yet). That website is hands down the best place to discuss Indian political, social and military affairs, has a TON of people who are in armed forces/Defence industries and civil service- both in India or overseas(there are a few foreigners there). Though sometimes that site leans towards paranoid/xenophobic ( all national military-related websites are), the info/newsfeed there is topnotch. the science discussion there is at a very high level, though revolving almost exclusively around military technology (i've never seen a site apart from that which explains how a phased array radar works in clinical detail or wtf exactly happens when you engage reheat in your jet engines etc). Oh you visit BR ? Here is my 3 cents about BR...my experiences and info about them :-) Yes they do have a lot of technical stuff on Military and are big on political affairs. Its largely families with Defence background and I used to be a regular even 7-8 years back as I come from a defence background as well. But something I didnt quite like about BR is they are very elitist, possibly because many prolific posters there are really highly intelligent ppl. Their age group too would be 30-40 range and most are top notch techies from institutes like IIT etc. they have a very low tolerance level for those less intellectual than themselves ( not all members, but some main ones running the show). They are mostly anti pakistan and you will find the acronym TSP very common ( Terrorist State of Pakistan). There are lots of connections with TIE, with many BR members also prominent in their local chapter of TIE. During the Kargil war and later during terrorist strikes in India, parliament attack etc, I was scheduled to bring for a chat a very senior Govt leader /Union Cabinet member of the Indian Govt who is well known to me, but I had to bail out as these guys were almost disdainful of anything they thought that didnt fit in with their world vision. Majority of the members are good, but powerless, and the few who run the show are outright conceited. There is much nonsense on BR cloaked under patriotism, and also a policy of get along or get out. There is also a you scratch my back-I scratch your back and disagreement is shot down by many ganging up, which while common on many forums, becomes ridiculous there. You just say anything that doesnt fit in with their tunnel vision of life and the world, and bang...out you go....IP address barred...I got so sick of that policy that I dont even visit the site often to read, but just catch up on some good posts now and then. An interesting anecdote : Those guys are so besotted with their so called self importance and intellectual ability , that they love to whisper that Indian intelligence, RAW , Military intel etc all lurk their site to glean expert knowledge on many matters LOL...I personally knew a top intelligence official and when I sincerely asked him if this was true, he laughed off the suggestion saying why the heck should a top Govt official with access to all info try to get it from a website. I had pointed this out on BR's forum and at once I was challenged by a big gang, and there was proof trotted out too by way of one member who was indeed a junior officer with the Indian Govt and member in his personal capacity as his brother was a member too. When I laughed at that...bang...bang...I was threatened with bans and also they were wondering if I was a mole myself !!! LOL...I then knew that these were not just intellectual fools, but conceited fools with plenty of information in some specific areas, and stopped contributing. A note : Knowing a bit about you and your views, I strongly advise against becoming a member and posting...not worth it, and I doubt if you would last long there..... flamy
flames' date=' wats ur id on padosi site :D[/quote'] same. But, their team is not great, so nowadays I just discuss cricket and Indian racism. CC1981
Thanks for the feedback, hari. My main reason for wanting to join is to contribute in the history threads. I know a fair bit of Indian and world history and i'd like to contribute in that respect. Not to mention, the BRF-ites sometimes have a very distorted view of history- one currently going around is that Chandragupta Maurya was a 1200BC ruler and Buddha was 1200 BCE,not 500-600BCE. While their arguments rely on liberal doses of patriotism-gone-awry,whining about 'evil western schmucks re-writing our history' and dodgy astrology, they ignore the fact that Buddha-Chandragupta Maurya are anchors for indian history and their dates are as watertight as it gets in history. Coz not only Ashoka mentions Chandragupta Maurya in his edicts, he also mentions the Selucid,Ptolemaic and Antigonid rulers of that era he had foreign relations with- all of whom are iin the 300-250BC period and Buddhist texts themselves have Buddha at 500-600BCE period.
