Maybe they cant- then its just essentially saying- sorry even though we have the capabilities to upgrade the experience for foreign fans we wont do it so either suck it up or dont come.

Lucknow isnt a dump.. its the biggest city in UP. a lot of the stadiums in India and its facilities should not have a direct correlation to the quality of the city. Orrisa isn't developed like Mumbai or Bengaluru but why is the fan experience in their hockey stadiums world class? because Odisha Gov has paid attention to what works and what can attract foreign fans to come- BCCI just doesnt care enough.

I dont want empty stadiums in a India WC.. but the Onus is on GOI and BCCI to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities warrant thousands of overseas fans to come and spend more money in the indian economy- thats not a unreasonable request is it?

India is a poor(per capita) and socialist country. Upgrading the experience of foreign tourists is least of our priorities. That's the sad reality.

Other than removing corruption, Red tape and building basic infrastructure, there's not much that the GoI or BCCI can do in order to improve tourism.

India will become better for foreign tourists only when it becomes better for it's own citizens. That will take time.

There was enough social media. If there was a ticketing scam, delay in schedule, matches allotted to poor venues etc it would have been highlighted.

Those were the days of multi billion dollar scams like CWG, 2G, Coalgate, Adarsh etc. Do you think something as little as  'ticketing scam', 'poor venue/schedule', would have gotten attention. Those wouldn't have even been considered as scams back then.

Off topic. Scores of Hindus & Sikh minorities were getting murdered or ousted from Kashmir in the 90s and even 00s. It hardly used to make front of newspapers let alone invite any outrage. Hell the self-admitted terrorist Yasin Malik was personally felicitated by our PM MMS and the media said nothing (in fact he was invited to India today conclave!)

Nowadays even if one labourer gets shot by terrorists in Kashmir, it makes national news and draws widespread outrage. People are far more aware now unlike ever before.

That's not true. Special arrangement can be made for foreign tourists on short term basis just like it was done in G20 where even localities were kept hidden to hide poverty. We can certainly do the basics right by learning from previous WC.

Scam is a scam. Everything needs to be highlighted. Just shows media is not independent as before.

Bhai the media was biased from day 1. Never 'independent'. You/we didn't notice it before because it was completely dominated by one side(leftists). The leftists had total control of the media narrative before 2014.

Now both left & right have their own narratives and the truth lies somewhere in between them. Earlier it was only one way street.

Then how come the scams you mentioned got highlighted big time? Infact major reason for their ouster was the outrage after Nirbhaya incident where pretty much everyone bashed the govt.

Ofcourse its never fully one way or the other. The ruling party control whatever it can but the 'anti-establishment' sentiment in journalism is missing nowadays.

Anyway thread is offtopic now.

Those scams were too big to hide and involved cabinet ministers. Besides the leftists aren't pro-Congress but anti-nationalists. They were even against the proIndia IndoUS Civil nuclear deal which was made by the Congress. They only like Congress because they hate BJP more.

Nirbhaya incident wasn't a major reason, it was sky high Inflation (much higher than today) and Corruption charges that buried the UPA.

The 'anti-establishment' sentiment is missing nowadays because Modi has completely captured the Nationalism narrative from the Congress. It's hard for the local media to be anti-Modi when he is seen as a pro Hindu and a Nationalist. How can they oppose Article 370 removal, Ram Mandir, Hawkish stand on Pakistan, tough on terror, agressive diplomacy, CAA(justice for Pak minorities),etc?

Anyways Got way off topic lol. Peace & Good night.
