We need more specialists and less multi format players?

Recommended Posts

Posters need to forget about Pant's form in the past.

We need to assess his batting in 2024 when and if he comes back.

If he fails in the IPL but plays every game, does that mean he comes straight back into the Indian side?

Pant is an athlete, did gymnastics in his youth.

Battle will be more mental. Thomas Muster came back to win the French after a similar car injury, he literally practiced tennis on a wheelchair, very famous case. Similar examples in wrestling and other physical sports.

That flexibility and agileness will be gone since his HORRIFIC injuries.

He is 26 and all gymnasts struggle once they hit their 20s let alone one with career threatening injuries.

You are talking about unique and absolute rare occurrences, I dont see it happening with Pant.

He may come back into the side and score a century here and there, but that destructive force of nature that he was and should have excelled at in his mid 20s is gone forever, IMO.

If Pant comes back, so be it, thats great, but really as you said we really need to groom the next wicket keeper.

Pant is my favourite current player and I was very very angry at his stupidity for driving in that reckless manner, he ruined his career on his own.

If I am not mistaken the media says he wont wicket keep which means he is only going to be a specialist batter. So who does he replace?

Hitman, KL and Kohli and permanent immovable objects and we need a keeper and 5 bowlers, it leaves little room for him to force his way into the side.

Yep. Too many of young players fall into a particular lifestyle when they get heaps of money at a young age.

Unable to handle the media attention and the celebrity status.

Pant felt invincible and it was one of the reasons he drove in the manner that he did.

The thing is, on Indian roads which are mostly poor compared to Western countries it was utter madness to drive reckless at that speed.

Dont get me wrong, Ive done stupid and idiotic things on the road in Australia, but probably the saving grace was the quality of roads I was driving on, not to mention the car.

Pant despite driving a C class Mercedes and also a new model, had a horrific accident. Imagine if he drove an Indian car, we would be talking about him in the past tense.

I get that but the C class Merc is why he felt the need to flaunt and do stupid things in the first place .

Dude wouldn't have even attempted that in a normal sedan that is common amongst the middle class

Normal sedan can easily have v6 v8 engines installed and powered up to function like a sports car.

Hell my falcon has xr6 turbo. Ford.

It's faster than many sports cars including c class mercedes I can assure you of that.

Obviously did not mean that. I meant a normal sedan .

If you are going to install a V6 engine in a normal sedan , then you'll have the desire to

1. Experience it yourself and possibly

2. Let others know it

No such temptation with a normal one.

Definitely not a C43 or C63s.

Modified cars are the best man. Way better than buying luxury imo.

Something about it. Especially if you can somewhat maintain it and make sure it gets serviced right, girls seem to love it lore than luxury cars lel.

Depends on the engine but yea. It's faster than c200 300s etc and faster than most e class cars. But yea anything with amg powered engines is going to be quicker than v6 as they probably have a v8 or a v6 with turbo design.

Those c200 and c300 and the E class Mercedes excluding the AMG's are specifically not designed for brutal speed but pure luxury and indulgence.

The AMG models are designed to offer the best of both worlds.

what we need are good players. not entitled IPL "superstars", who can't even do well in that format (t20s) where they are alleged superstars.

If cricket was truly a world wide sport and had great depth and quality, I dont even think India would qualify for finals in tournaments.

Much like England in soccer.

Not sure I agree with your overall gist here. My understanding is that his injuries were torn knee ligaments (ACL/MCL/both?). Many athletes, including those in the toughest of sports like American football, have come back strong (sometimes stronger) after ligament repair surgery. Others have not. I think it is too early to tell and there is as much of a chance that he will come back to full form as there is that he will never be the same. Given his status as a world-class cricketer, his surgery was likely done by the most skilled docs in the best facilities, and his rehab therapists gave him the best possible treatment.  I think his chances are good, and I am sure we both hope fervently that I am right :-)!!

Eng in football (what some people call soccer) is >>>>  Ind in cricket if it were global.

Eng would be in top 10 footballing nations. if cricket were global, Ind would be outside top 25-30

Depends on whom we  pick. If we go with the usual ipl quota then no. If we pick players with mental toughness like pant then yes we will go far

"by far": what this means is that we we will barely qualify for WC (if cricket was indeed global), and then get knocked out in first round. among others, we would be facing:

1. US: god-tier prep and talent scouting.

2. natural physical talent of several african and caribbean nations that either do not play or do not take it seriously enough (imagine peak WI again, but now with several such teams of pure physicality).

3. gamesmanship and prep and scouting from Europe; a diluted version of US, but still powerful

4. chinese & japanese: brutal training, strict discipline, more than sum of parts, decent skills too

5. S.American flair and creativity
