Indian and Russian chess stars sweat over visa for Candidates Tournament as Canada drags its feet

Candidates 2024 was awarded to Toronto, set to start on April 3rd. 

 

3 Indians (Pragg, Vidit, Gukesh) and the Russian Nepo haven't been given visas despite applying months in advance. No such problems for other candidates from US, France, Azerbaijan.

 

Russia-Ukraine war, the diplomatic tensions between India and Canada are being cited as reasons. Never before has such a thing happened in chess history. Useless Trudeau government.

US and French nationals do not need a visa to enter Canada.

 

Processing time for visitor's visa from India is around 6 months.

There is nothing called Chess tournament without indian and Russians.

 

In modern West, Canada is probably worst country when it comes to organisation and delivery. Forget G7, Cop 20, commonwealth,  I mean how difficult it is to plan and organise a chess tournament.
