Yeah it was a masterclass in taking apart weaker bowlers . But I think Waugh did hit Pollock and Donald at the end too . But yeah the real difference was that the Aussies had a stronger and deeper batting lineup than both SA and PAK - The Waughs, Gilly, Bevan, Ponting, Lehmann - high quality specialist batsmen while SA and PAK relied a lot on allrounders Aus had the edge in batting and SA in bowling. SA produced a lot of allrounders around that time. Apart from Donald and Elworthy everyone could bat. Yeah Waugh hit Donald and Pollock too it was a great innings. The chase came with a good plan to target Boje and medium pacers. Waugh also had another trick up his sleeve. He could predict SA's bowling changes. A year before Waugh said SA always sets patterns when a specific bowler comes on for his middle over spell in the triangular series in Aus. And while he was always suspect as an ODI batter , he always performed against SA in that period 1998-2001. Very odd ODI batsman. Would look very ordinary for long periods of time and would suddenly come up with clutch knocks when Gilchrist, Mark , Ponting could not get going. When others were in song, he would usually come late to tonk a few sixes or even send other batsmen or a pinch hitter in the middle overs. He was forever a team man as is the rest of his crew. They never fought for their own stats only for their team Nikhil_cric
