Autonomous
Is league cricket a good benchmark to select players in the international cricket, or cricketers with proven domestic circuit performance should only be considered for selection? Pakistan has selected guys like Azam Khan, Haris, Usman Khan, Shadab etc based on their league performances and none of them have done well in the international cricket. From India, I think Hardik has success despite being primarily a star IPL performer? Link to comment
vvvslaxman
This Usman Khan dude is from Dubai right? Is he that good to come ahead of all your domestic performers? Either he is very good or your domestic performers are very bad. Looking at his numbers pakistan domestic feeder system seems to be substandard. Link to comment
jf1gp_1
I guess it boils down to which league. Performance in srilankan league/domestic vs IPL will be viewed differently . cricketfan28 1 Link to comment
tapandrun
Leagues lIke IPL are way closer to Intnl T20 cricket than those Domestics tournaments are to IPL. But the source for IPL is always been good domestic player and there are v.few who are coming out of system that would have succeeded in IPL. Even if they are selected in IPL bases up-on the camps and talent hunts IPL teams are making them play in domestic tournaments which is important to find domestic teams for the players and get them games. In early stages when IPL teams would get Intnl (OS) players with no to little intnl games would fail here in IPL it to much pressure and expectations. Only S.Marsh was successful over the seasons and now looks like McGurk is doing it, Even Eng. talent who is doing so good over in other leagues find it hard in IPL only top performers can be sure success. As far Pak no1 is interested in playing domestic, PSL is easy to get in and give 1/2 good performances you are in the team or atleast in the reckoning and it helps if you are new face. Its more to do with PCB they are lot more interested in T20s, Always promoting it as their best format. Rauf - he was a tennis ball player would not have bowled more than 15-20 balls a day and then to come into intl bowl with heavier bowl able to build up pace and sustain it and to play for 50 over and bowl 10 overs in different phases is remarkable for some1 with no exp. with leather ball cricket. Selectors are probably ignoting the consistent performers. Fakhar was a huge success in domestic cricket and probably that is why he has been able to do well in international cricket too. There has to be a working system for every country. For Srilanka it is school ssystem.. If you don't have a feeder system and try to use leagues as a means to identify talent result will be failure. On an average a batsman faces 5 or 6 overs (generous number), a bowler bowls 4 overs (split by 2 spells). It is very easy to make yourself look good for ssuch a short period as there are no consequences in franchies cricket. In a strong dometic system there are no short cuts you will be competing against who are equally hungry like you. Link to comment
