Not just that... people from my generation had other sports to follow as well (hockey was not yet completely declined - won 1975 WC for instance), and moreover, there was greater erudition about cricket among the fans (even though the fans were fewer in number compared to now). people were, in a sense, less invested in cricket - it really took off from 1983 onward Ultimate_Game 1
