zen Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Over the last few years, we have seen a lot of discussions b/w LW and RW play out on social media including the great ICF. Which side are you on at the moment (of course, our thinking process changes over time so does our positions)? I am on the “zen wing” where I accept the differences (many times there is a relatively irreparable damage), and look for relatively practical solutions versus simply “us or them ”. Below are a couple of examples on geopolitics: A) Hindus in an Islamic Bangladesh * Right position In India - save the Hindus (at least give those who want to leave BD a safe passage to Ind) In BD - Get rid of the Hindus (occupy their properties for Muslims, etc.) much like in India it “could” be get rid of Muslims or whatever * Left position In India - what can we do, we are BD? In BD - I don’t know the left has a voice at the moment. If it exists, it is marginal * Zen position Accept the hostile environment As a leader of Hindus in the world (esp. subcon), give a safe passage to those who want (immediate priority to save lives) Work for an independent or relatively autonomous region for Hindus in BD B) Israel v Palestine * Right position - get rid of Palestinians * Right position - get rid of the Israelis * Left position - give Palestinians some land Zen position The issue has been raging on for too long. We have seen religious wars for the control of Jerusalem as well. We have reached a point where it is difficult to see a compromise. The Islamic countries in the ME have used the Palestine issue to attack Israel too. Israel, with the help of its allies, has fought brutally as well. Both parties have suffered to such an extent that who started what becomes almost pointless. Yes, Israelis have suffered (with Palestinians seen as a tool to make Israel suffer) so has the Palestinians for e.g. - Link My solution here is that at the end of the day, the Middle East has to work to provide some sort of an autonomous region to Palestine. The region could be carved out from areas in multiple countries. If it does not work, we would see one or more of the communities in the Middle East becoming almost extinct (Do we want that?) This is not a thread on what is right or wrong, but to see which “wing” folks mostly align themselves with. Mariyam 1
