2 kids is fine.  Also, it's pointless comparing those with high rates of education and affluence with a guy who has a shop outside.

Educated Muslim couples I know who are working in the service sector struggle to get married and don't want a second child because it's challenging to raise kids in this environment.

Muslim gender ratio is impressive.... primary school enrollment data on udise is showing Sikhs as having the worst gender ratio. About 8 sikh girls to 10 sikh boys... consistent with census data

Hindu child gender ratio is also bad.

Getting married early has a lot to do with employment type *also*
 

Those from business owning families (even those with small businesses like shops/garages) tend to get married by 25. This is for boys and girls. Especially girls. You will find this trend in a lot of Marwari/Gujarati families also. Most Muslims are self employed and tend to fall in this category.

 

The educated people take time to ‘settle down’. A degree, a post graduation, A promotion , pressures of owning a home and the associated financing. Marriage is invariably pushed out.

 

As someone else also mentioned in this thread, Muslim TFR in India has crashed. Perhaps the sharpest fall in terms of percentage.

Right, good progress. In 1991, the muslim tfr was 33.3% more than Hindu tfr..(Hindu tfr 3.3 muslim 4.4).

 

In 2025 muslim tfr would be 20% more i think (hindu at 1.85, muslim at 2.1-2.15)

 

The target imo should be arnd 1.5 (like Iran Kashmir etc) temporarily atleast till population starts to decline.
