India's bowling in Asia Cup : This is totally unacceptable.

A good team is one which can perform to a good level in all conditions. The CB series is the only thing of significance we have won during the last year. Even England managed to do that last year - that did not make them a good side. Despite all the hype and optimism surrounding our ODI side on ICF' date=' results are still too few and far between. A series loss to England, to Australia, a 3-2 win at home against Pakistan, losing a cup to Pakistan. Hardly results to boast about. Good teams are built on results not on paper and besides the CB series there are hardly any results to show.[/quote'] Finally a down to earth post about Indian team. I completely agree with Shwetabh when he tags our team as 'average and improving'. But I would like shwetabh to discard the England and Pakistan series when he is evaluating this ODI side. England series was led by RD and Pakistan series was though led by Dhoni, he did not completely have a side that he has right now. We have to evaluate our team from CB series onwards. Our team is average mainly for one reason inconsistent bowling performance. Flat track or not, our bowlers HAVE to learn how to bowl on these pitches because we will play more games in these conditions and on these very flat tracks.

Please re-read Dhondy's IPL making people complacent and having "made it" post. I think it is very relevant. You become rich anyway, and it is naive to think that it (becoming rich easy) does not have an effect on the fire and passion to push yourself to the limits.
Sorry, But that is too irrelevent. When were our bowler effective EVER on flat tracks? They need some help from the track, be it bounce, or pace or lateral movement. Those who didn't know that our bowling was rubbish on flat tracks, need to brush up their knowledge and watch the series vs Pakistan in 2006, two years before the IPL. Hence stop blaming IPL for each and everything. Had the players been complacent, they'd have opted out of the series instead of playing in these punishing conditions under such a punishing schedule.
It's unacceptable only because a lot of fans have unrealistic expectations from what is essentially an above average improving team, nothing more. Frankly, I am not surprised at all by these blow hot blow cold performances from the team and I won't be surprised if our attack is butchered even more mercilessly tomorrow if SL fields a full strength unit. Our bowlers have taken a grand total of 4 wickets in the two matches against Pakistan and in retrospect it was Pakistan's go slow strategy at the start which made the first win possible. Even against Bangladesh we could manage only 6 wickets. It's a pretty flaky bowling attack which needs the batting to be above par for a match result to favor us. Some of it is attributable to debatable selections, some to the flat pitches, but at the end of the day the bowling attack is nothing compared to Sri Lanka's on these kind of tracks. We have no wicket taking option in the middle overs and our spinners will get slaughtered by half decent batsmen. Not only that the opposition will inevitably have enough wickets in hand to launch into our pace bowlers in the slog overs and make them bleed. Neither do our pacers know how to bowl consistently in the block hole or effectively use the bouncer. That's not to say they won't be good enough, they just aren't as of now. Fast bowlers and spinners can take years to develop into a formidable force and this attack just needs time, experience, and training. But don't expect consistent shows from them for now. Sreesanth and RP Singh are probably our best bets as far as bowling yorkers is concerned and the lack of Sreesanth is hitting the bowling hard. On these kind of pitches, picking up wickets is crucial and even though he goes for runs he does take wickets. Looking at our bowling attack I can't imagine where we will pick up our next wicket from and I am sure Dhoni thinks the same.
Terrific post!!

Dhoni admits --- India missing Bhajji Karachi: Clearly unhappy as his bowlers failed to defend a 300-plus total against Pakistan, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the side is missing an experienced spinner in the Asia Cup. With off-spinner Harbhajan Singh serving a five-ODI ban for slapping S Sreesanth during the Indian Premier League, Piyush Chawla has been spearheading the Indian spin attack but with little success. Talking after the team's eight-wicket defeat against Pakistan, Dhoni said though Chawla was trying his best, things could have been vastly different if he had an experienced spinner in the ranks. "On flat tracks like this one, scores like 300 or 310 is just not enough if you don't have an experienced spinner. There is not much help from the pitch for the spinners and it's rather easier for the batsman to go after the spinner than rotate the strike. There you need experienced spinner," Dhoni said. source: http://www.cricketnext.com/news/dhoni-admits-india-missing-harbhajan/32530-13-0.html Imagine if we had Bhajji, Sree .....or even Ramesh Powar

even yusuf pathan is a better bowler than chawla. and its time ojha replaced chawla in the xi. chawla never even looks like picking up a wicket unless the batsman gifts it. and in the squad, let amit mishra replace piyush chawla

Please let's stop this harping about missing Harbhajan like our neighbors constantly whine about missing their phhaaast bowlers. The guy was in serious breach of conduct by slapping his own teammate and does not deserve to play for the length of time of his ban. Good riddance to bad rubbish till he can sort himself out.

Bhajji too struggled for taking wickets at times...but due to experience he handles pressure situation better than these young blokes. seriously, India is unable to produce quality spinners as it is known for. Irony is thateven in batting, except Sachin-Sehwag, there is no youngster in ODI team who can claim to demolish opposition spin bowling with confidence.

we dun need to find replacement for Bhajji..He is a star performer...Missed 4 sure. Even Karthik or powar would have been a better selection in bhajjis absence.
He is missed for sure... but don't you think there is something amiss when a country like India doesnot have another decent budding offspinner.

actually Bhajji has served his ban and is free to play now .. wonder why they didnt have him in the squad as he could have played yesterday;s game as well
How could BCCI include a player in the middle of a series? it has never been a custom with any board for that matter...more so here since the player in question commited a crime which is unbearable for any sports body
