Fourth nuke sub at sea trials..

 

I think by tonnage this is the biggest the indian submarine force has ever been even with retirements in the ex kilo class coming up

 

 

24,000 tonnes simply in ballistic missile subs.

Whoever made the decision to continue with S4*  additional SSBN in 2012 to avoid the gap in production line deserves a Bharat Ratna at this point of time.

 

Good god whatta visionary decision considering S5's design phase took almost 12 years.

 

Wish we showed same seriousness with our SSK's.

I think there might be two more....7000 class subs. Its 100% a mini leap from arihant. Ascoustic is around 30% less than Arihant

Reckon focus is totally on S5's now.

There are 6 planned but budget constraints and to fill critical SSN gap it will most likely make it to 4.

 

 

They will add more later on.

Lets see.. Knowing this program, they might launch S5 now with the final Arihant class already being built as we speak. I think that if the early 2030s are given as the official entry date, it will mostly be sooner than that. Expected all 4 in the class to be ready by 2035.

 

One of the very unique programs that is delivered earlier than anticipated. Like the inverse or anti-tejas lol

SSBN was taken up as national priority to complete the nuclear triad and make India a competent blue water Navy.

They've already ordered 83+97 = 180 mk1a, total 10 squadrons 

Close to 36-38 mk1 are already flying...around 2 squadron.

 

12 squadron is enough for mk1a, given the pace at which HAL is delivering it will easily take them atleast 10 years...but it can rise to 15 yrs as well

Yeah it was a matter of paramount Natsec and project since its inception was under PMO.  Babus would have completely wrecked the project otherwise.

 

They should have taken Kaveri project under PMO as well.

It's a doomed project but for numbers we needed it to come good.

Mk1a are simply not coming at all.  Even the first order completion by the end of this decade would take a otherworldly miracle.

By March they'll deliver 5-6 to IAF.

IAF wants mk1a with Astra integrated. Without it they wont accept.

I was expecting it to be honest, With acquisition of additional "Romeo" helicopters, there was a case of procurement of additional P8Is descoping.

 

Plus India is already working on procurement of Seaguardian, Dornier and C295.

 

Downer and C295 are indigenously made, so probably if PMO pushes it hard, the timelines may get shorter.

The p8 is very good. They are adding a long range missile of 900km to complement harpoon. India need 20 of these to be honest (8 more). Only piece if american tech (maybe the m777) i thought was worth it.

 

Not quite familier with local programs.

The P8I deal will happen.  Honestly speaking if you want to pay Jaziya to US of A... P8I, Chinooks MH 60R seahawks are all worthy of it.

this decision probably has little to do with having given up on mk1a, the cuurent order book on mk1a will continue well into 2030s, mk2 is expected to enter production in 2030. Additional mk1a order makes no sense.

Astra mk2 will be part of Tejas mk1 as well.

As per this, the construction of two S5 SSBN Submarines are already in progress at Vizag port. 4th SSBN is also ready for trials from 2026.

 

The newer S5 SSBNs would be able carry K5 missiles in larger capacity. Safe to say, our SSBNs are progressing at decent pace.

 

Probably after getting the SSBN numbers, India can reuse the expertise to create a good number of SSGNs as well that can rain hellfire against any adversary. 

 

SSGN will give our Naval wing a formidable and unmatched underwater capacity to bulldoze the enemy. Hopefully, someone in our Navy must be discussing this with MoD as part of "next gen" Submarine warfare.
