Holysmoke
They went to a beach to relax. Why sack them? Do International cricketers have to be jailed in hotel rooms for months? Nowhere does it say that they were out drinking. Neither does it say that they were out at a nightclub. Finey getting paranoid as usual. Cricketnext, the masala site, puts a headline "STARS HAD A NIGHT OUT BEFORE BIG DAY", but read the damn thing neutrally, and you'll realize that they had gone to a beach to relax themselves before the big day. It doesnt say that they broke the cerfew, or even whether there was a cerfew. I see nothing, absolutely nothing wrong in what they did. Infact, I would encourage going to the beach if it helps them relax! Link to comment

Holysmoke
New Delhi: The Indian team slid to a horrific 100-run loss to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, and now the news is out that three players from the team had a jolly night out on a beach in Karachi. Jolly night out? What do they mean by that? read on to find out... These are players who had made major contributions during India's impressive run to the final, but flopped when it mattered most. Sensationalist, nothing to do with the article. India's batting mainstays — vice-captain Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma, who scored 0, 16 and 3 respectively, were sent packing by wily Sri Lankan bowler Ajantha Mendis as India slumped to a big defeat. Again, masala stuff, meant to rile up the reader against them, nothing to do with the article. IANS reports that the three players slipped out of the team hotel in Karachi on Friday to spend the night at French Beach, a popular resort on the shores of Karachi, while the rest of the team stayed put in the hotel to get rest ahead of a gruelling practice session. Slipped out of the team hotel? Ya, right. An Indian cricketer, who has president level security, "slip out" of the team hotel. Rest of the team stayed put in the hotel. Headline of the article says that this was "night out before the match". This paragraph says "while the rest of the team stayed put in the hotel to get rest ahead of a gruelling practice session." What bullsheet. If its the night before the game, the rest of the team was resting before a practice session? And we are reading into this news? How stupid are the readers of cricketnext? Several players have lately complained of exhaustion, but the late night excursion doesn't seem to have helped them. How do they know? Players went to the beach to relax, to unwind. Some people unwind in hotels, some people need some fresh air. Who is to say that they werent relaxing? Did they go clubbing? No. Did they go drinking? No. Sensationalist CRAP. Link to comment

Holysmoke
teams have curfews and rules. you can't just take off to "relax" on your own. What exactly tells you that they broke the rules? Who said that they werent permitted to go to the beach? If they were missing from the practice session, hung over, etc then its a different case. This is something for the team to manage. We dont have enough information, and should not take this sensationalist news seriously. Link to comment

All this would be irrelevant if the team had won or even put up a decent fight. When they choke like these guys did, some people will be looking for reasons why.[/quote'] The reason is simple. They were scared of Mendis, couldnt pick him, had never played against him earlier. They even played an extra batsman in the finals, to negate the Mendis factor, be he was too good for them. Why cant people accept that and live with it? Link to comment
