I don't think i have ever seen such a poor playing XI selections  and use of impact sub by many franchisees ever.  So many teams missed the mark. RCB got it right from the get go since they had the core that won the last IPL. Many teams got the playing XI wrong in multiple cases and it resulted in losses. Today CSK did an atrocious thing of dropping Akeal hosein and playing Matt short. This was after SRh did an equally stupid thing of bringing Livingstone as impact sub in 18th over.

Then KKR was playing Green purely as a batsman while Red hot form Seifert warming the bench.

This is compounded by atrocious use of resources on the field by multiple captains.

You'll also see a common theme across these disasters. The franchises who make these bone-headed decisions are the ones who are led by misfit captains who don't belong in IPL. KKR with Rahane and CSK with Ruturaj are the leading examples. Rahane is blocking Seifert and also had led to other impactful batters being pushed down. There's no need to play Rahane and Raghuvanshi can do what Rahane does. Similarly Ruturaj is not needed and ideally Urvil Pteal needs to bat in his place.

Pant corrected the mistake in the second match. That is probably the only good thing he did. They also made some real dumb decisions.

One thing i heard is guys like Patidar,  Paragh  possibly Kishan too  are operating based on pure data supplied by TM.  I have no clue why Shivang only bowled 3 overs today. Also Mukesh bowled only 2 overs and Kamboj bowled only 3 overs but Short bowled 3 overs.

Pant has been a huge disappointment. Once he looked like a gun batter for Team India and now should focus solely on Tests. Once this IPL auction cycle is done, I doubt anyone picks him up.

Patidar, Parg and Kishan are all captains by convenience and so don't have much sway over the decisions. Kishan is filling in for Cummins, Parag doesn't deserve to be the captain and is only the captain due to his political connections & backing, and Patidar will always be second to Kohli. They simply don't have the clout which say Dhoni, Iyer or formerly Kohli and Rohit had. They're there to just hold the fort and you can see it in their decision making.

If SRH moves away from Cummins, you'll see a different Ishan as captain but the moment he's just a fill-in. Parag needs to earn his spot and is not a natural captain. Patidar is in the most difficult spot, just like Pandya. They need Kohli and Rohit to move away else they will just be captains in name but not truly own the team.

Sangakkara and ANdy FLower are two of the biggest data driven coaches.  They literally follow to T.

That's what happens when coaches are more powerful than the captain.

Lsg not playing mayank:wall:

Is he fit? Also I feel we are going to be set up for disappointment with his pace. Hope that’s not the case

Moody confirmed he’s been ready fitness wise since the start of the ipl. They just wanted him to be more ready volume wise.
But regardless, he should have been played by now.

They could have bowled him few overs the other night. Match was lost.

He could have got match practice.

There are teams on auto captin mode and captain just there for namesake and toss - RCB, SRH, RR, even Gujju

these teams have done all the work and support staff is calling the shots - you can see by how active they are on sidelines constantly talking to captains and seniors whethwr it is DK or Mo Bobat for RCB, vettori for srh, sanga for rr even Nehraji

there are other teams which are a mixture like PBKS

then ypu have teams like csk mi lsg kkr who just hand it over to captains and support staff eating mixture and drinking chai all game some even taking nap on the bench like russell and tendulkar
