rangeelaraja Posted August 3 Posted August 3 A two-party system would give India a stable government that does not have to worry about small regional parties constantly threatening to withdraw support. The ruling party could pass big national laws and economic changes quickly without local leaders blocking them. This makes voting simpler because citizens know exactly who to praise or blame for how the country is doing. I think it is better for national unification. Regional identity politics is cancerous as we have seen with the Dravidian parties and other regional parties that play caste based poiltics. Obviously easier said than done. I wonder whether the Supreme Court would allow this in national interest.

As bad as it was British figured out a way to rule the land based on the governing system they managed to put into place and also pushed our frontiers along with it. Neither Ashoka, neither Sultanate or Mughals figured out a way to effectively control the union via a centralised system. Diversity is strength but weakness at the same time. zen Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) No, because India has not really benefitted from western concepts as much as it would have liked. We have seen that models successful in other countries are not implemented "as is" to get twisted wickedly to benefit only the politicians and the mega rich (while the general population remains harassed). Some examples - * Parliament system and British laws -> mutated into so many laws that people can't even keep track of to simply ignore laws. * Secularism - ideally, it should mean that anyone can follow any religion anywhere with pride while the government remains neutral -> It has been turned into being a religions person = some kind of a crime. * Nazi concepts -> this is used to promote what the followers term as anti-westerization, so a Valentine Day becomes an avenue to harasses those in love. ... Anything marketed as best for the country usually only results in problems for the civilians - take E20 petrol for example at the moment. and so on. It is time to actually step back to stop thinking about making India better or best esp. theoretically (digital India but many times no work gets gone when the internet isn't working -> at least first create a viable infrastructure) and let the people do their best, including by creating favorable environments. Basic issues are still pending including waste management, rain water management, clean water, and even water availability, pollution in various forms, etc. Ape west first by improving the civilian infrastructure to western standards or current modern standards that can even exceed western standards.
