DomainK Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 We arent talking about air here Domaink, we're talking stuff like 'low-lying areas', 'Landfall', 'High tides' and 'Floods'. I suppose by now, you must have gotten the drift. :) It isnt the strong winds that kill people most of the time, its the flooding that the hurricane causes when it makes landfall that dangerous. Oh dear, it sounds even more dangerous now.:nervous: I never had a first hand experience with such wild storms. Good luck guys, have a plan for an emergency.

PPl in Houston are asked to hunker down and not roam around as the swirling shatterred glass and debris is going to be more dangerous varun i know its for galveston.. but i still dont believe anyone has issued statement like that for them.. houston's mayor and judge have been awesome.. so are galveston authority.. its soo damn windy.. if you stand outside, it will move you...
Lurker Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 West Houston should be okay Thx/Veer. The hardest hit area would be South and East if I remember the geography of the area correctly. Galveston seems to be doomed for now, atleast thats what media is telling us all. I would suggest, if you are still reading this, to get inside a room with least amount of windows. The wind is going to be very darn hectic and there can be a chance of glasses breaking. If you can then put some mattress around the windows to act as a proxy for shock absorbing. There is always the case of storing some food, torchlight, match boxes, candles, water and clean clothes. Then again I am sure you have already done all of that. I was watching the other day how some of the very areas I lived at, or went to, were properly submerged. Kinda deja vu. By the by what was worst - the storm OR babysitting infants??
veer Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 yeahh.. power is still out at my place... came to work today as the power is on here.. this was quiet an experience!! wind was powerful.. the whole tree was shacking in my frontyard.. but thank god it didnt fell off.. didnt do any damage at my place. messed up front and back yard.. and that no power .. soo running low on food.. drove around neighborhood to see damage.. lot of trees fell off, fences got blown off.. shingles flew off.. powerline fell off.. and I was on north side of town.. drove to other areas, and i saw signal lights arent working and infact hanging down low attached with those wires.. burger king big board blown off and ended up two blocks away .. big lines at gas stations.. and creating lil fights.. lines are medical stores, and few restaurants.. south side.. the galveston area is pretty bad... sewer line is backed up.. no running water, electricity.. flooding everywhere.. our Houston Mayor and officials did fine job of alerting people and preparing city for help right after storm.... it was a category 2 storm.. but its reach was huge soo did lot of damage.. if it was category 3 or 4 with this reach.. boy it would have been nightmare..
