The Outsider Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 After scathing attacks on Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, and Sourav Ganguly, the latest excerpts made public from Adam Gilchrist's soon to be released autobiography have made accusations on "unsportsman like" behaviour by VVS Laxman during the test series played by India and Australia over the past few years. In a chapter dealing with the agonies Laxman has given the Aussies over the years Gilchrist writes, "VVS Laxman, despite being a good batsman, has shown consistently unsportsman like behaviour during most of our encounters. We were led to believe by Donny that he is a walking wicket during our team meetings which lulled us into a false sense of complacency. Donny used to tell us that VVS Laxman would walk whenever he faces us because of which we never spent too much time planning out his dismissal. Laxman's decision to consistently ignore this pact with Donny and not walk starting from Calcutta through Adelaide, Sydney(on multiple occasions), Mumbai, and most recently at Delhi was not in the spirit of the game." Donny, it might be recalled is the Aussie spokesperson, and had recently made a comment on their behalf, "To the Aussies, Laxman is a walking wicket". He also works as the chief troll of ICF on a part time basis. Meanwhile, match referee Chris Broad has brought level 3 charges against VVS Laxman for regularly and consistently violating the spirit of the game and bringing the game to disrepute for not walking despite being a walking wicket. The charges were brought in by Mitchell Johnson, Ricky Ponting, and umpire Billy Bowden today after Johnson was seen to be reminding Laxman of his moral duty to walk during the course of the day's game. The incident happened a few overs before lunch today when Johnson was seen telling this to Laxman after every delivery. Inside sources revealed that the hearing will be held as soon as Donny is able to fly out to India. Reacting to the severity of the charges, Broad said, "ICC has always been very considerate to the previous breaches but by not being dismissed in any innings Laxman brought this upon himself and I was left with no choice but to make the strongest case possible against him for this agregious violation of his title as a walking wicket". With Kumble retired, Gambhir already banned, Tendulkar contemplating retirement after some clowns chose Pietersen over him in an XI to take on the Aussies, and Ganguly and Harbhajan certain to miss the Nagpur test for fear of a green wicket, a ban to Laxman is certain to put Australia in a position of great strength to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
