satishg Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Its more pleasing to see Balaji back bolwing well after his injuries. Itll be good to see if he can challenge for a India spot again true 9 wickets on his comeback match is no ordinary feat..hope he comes into national reckoning soon..i just read an article in Hindu where it was mentioned that he has increased his pace as well..if he does make a comeback whoa that wud be just awesome..he really has volumes of mental resilience..all the best to the ever smiling Balaji :two_thumbs_up:
hindu-Stan Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 There is a shocking plurge of runs from so many contenders for test side. No idea who to pick. We need an A tour so top run scorer wins and gets the spot in test side. Badrinath slams ton, Karthick slams double ton, pujara with massive ton, yuvraj with 2 tons. Not to mention sharma, raina and others. We have so much strengh and talent. I am not that much impress with batch streght and all that crap. On Indian pitch any body can get some runs. The real test comes when they can handle bounce and swing , reverse swing ects. Other end, the india has many medium pacer so if batters are scoring good then still i have my dought they can handle fast bowlder. You know indian batsman again good quality fast bowler. BCCI should invent some money in NZ and rent some ground and play some cricket there also with local heros..
suraj Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 The thing is too much emphasis on Ranji scores is ridiculous. Just see today's scores...you have batters getting huge 100s everywhere. Kukreja 200, KKD 200, JN Shah 178, Pujara 180...some others getting 170, 250 etc.... I think this is what the wise Sdagoppan Ramesh meant when he said " even Mahatma Gandhi can get 100s in Indian FC cricket", when asked about Devang gandhi's scores :-) This is quite true- it is very common to see scores of 200, 300+ from individual payers in our domestics and then the whole team gets bowled out for 70+ in international matches!
punjabi_khota Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 This is quite true- it is very common to see scores of 200' date=' 300+ from individual payers in our domestics and then the whole team gets bowled out for 70+ in international matches![/quote'] There was Sharma dude scored billion runs in domestic but failed miserably in national side. Ajay sharma or something.
fineleg Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Raman Lamba Arun Lal W.V.Raman all billions in domestics who else? domestic only tigers?
Guest HariSampath Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 What do you mean ? Arun Lal ? He was a very good international opening batsman. He had played superbly against some of the most fearsome fast bowlers of that era, like Imran, Windies bowlers etc
Guest HariSampath Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Akash Chopra...he is yet another fc bully, tons of fc runs, but complete failure in International cricket
Lord Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Akash Chopra...he is yet another fc bully' date=' tons of fc runs, but complete failure in International cricket[/quote'] imo he want given enuf chances, did well in aus. btw,is badrinath going that way????
Guest HariSampath Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 he did well in Aus ? no. He failed completely and he has been given too many chances. Chopra is a first rate test failure No...dont even begin to start off on " he-was-doing-his-role-while-sehwag-scored"...His role is to make runs too, not simply look at Sehwag from the non striker's end. gambhir has conclusively proved all those cr@p theories like "holding one end up" etc wrong. A test batter has to contribute runs. Akash Chopra played more innings than he scored runs, so he was rightly dropped...for ever, hope he is never selected to the team again.

Guest HariSampath Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 sure, any two batsmen can be compared, quite simply see how many runs they make for the side. Is there any other "role" except to score runs ? any batter has to do that, and even if he is "asked to hold one end up", surely he can get runs too. From what we saw of Akash Chopra, he is not capable of scoring runs against international bowling. Its a simple enough truth. And to say that he was "asked to do a role" while Sehwag blasted is ridiculous. we all know sehwag plays that way anyway, irrespective of who is at the other end or how he is playing. And btw, Gautam Gambhir has already shown he can get runs in Aussie conditions...see CB series....it proves that if he had played the tests, he would have done far better than the Chopras, jaffers etc

King Tendulkar Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Raman Lamba Arun Lal W.V.Raman all billions in domestics who else? domestic only tigers? Times have changed! Our new players come much better prepared and are much more ready for the international game. You guys still stuck in the past with the old sterotypes. These young batters are serious players and are cpable of delivering big time . Just look at murali when he stepped in, looked so comfortable. All the newbies are great runner between wickets and top fielders as well. Things have changed in Indian cricket and some people need to realise this

Times have changed dude. You seen how these guys run between wickets and field for example. They also have bowling machines, nets with bounce in it etc etc. Old sterotypes still prevail

Just look at murali when he stepped in, looked so comfortable. All the newbies are great runner between wickets and top fielders as well. Things have changed in Indian cricket and some people need to realise this and just to balance it, remember Manoj Tiwari ?? Lee took him to the cleaners as did Shoaib in the IPL. He has never faced raw pace and has no idea how to combat it.
fineleg Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Manoj Tiwary was like a 'deer caught in the headlights' when he faced Brett Lee. The "domestic tigers" but "international lambs" still exist. India-A tours and away series are a better way to identify talent who have staying potential.
bunny Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Have seen Pujara. His technique isn't that good especially against short pitch stuff. He will have to make a lot of adjustments to succeed in FC cricket. He is only 20 though. He needs to face a lot of FC cricket bowling like in A tours, on green pitches, etc., before he is ready for international cricket. The only problem nowadays is that test and ODI players don't play first class cricket. Hence, Ranji teams are not that great anymore. But still there should be lots to learn for a 20 year old.
King Tendulkar Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 and just to balance it, remember Manoj Tiwari ?? Lee took him to the cleaners as did Shoaib in the IPL. He has never faced raw pace and has no idea how to combat it. Of course not every plaayer who does well in FC cricket will fire at international level as there is a step up. This is were techniques and tempremant need to be looked at. But its the same every were. Some posters would be masturbating over an aussie who piles on the runs in aussies FC cricket, thats until bhaji or ishant tormented them. To dismiss our boys piling on the runs in FC cricktet is madness. There is some real class there, much more then usual. We have so much talent. p.s dont write of tiwary yet he is young and can come back again
Sachinism Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Cheteshwara Pujara was in the news for his two triple-centries in a week during the Under-22 CK Nayudu Trophy last month. He is currently the leading scorer in this season's Ranji Trophy after an unbeaten 302 against Orissa and a 182-ball 189 against Punjab. Sandeep Dwivedi, of the Indian Express, travelled to the Pujara home in Rajkot to discover the story behind the big numbers. The prospect of buying a new bat didn’t appeal to the father’s pocket. Arvind requested the Cheteshwar’s school to lend his son the team bat. "It was a bit embarrassing for me since they weren’t too forthcoming. But after several requests they relented, and with that borrowed bat Cheteshwar scored his first triple hundred - 306 not out against Baroda," says Arvind before fishing out that old bat - a BDM that the school gifted to Cheteshwar after that. http://blogs.cricinfo.com/surfer/archives/2008/11/the_rise_of_che.php
