I am 100% sure the Govt. of India would have atleast considered the possibility of some surgical strikes, specifically targeting terror camps in PoK ( not Pakistan mind you). They have thought about that before and sometime in the future, they will think about it again. Both McCain and then later Roy, were probably referring to that. And of course our official line will 'War is not an option'.. Whatdaya expect? Our govt ministers to go on a public war-mongering spree, sending the markets tumbling down and plummeting economic sentiment? War is ALWAYS an option, only its never publicly told as so. I am not contending whether war is an option or not, what I wanted to show was the misquote in her article. Oh Come on. If Arnab Goswami didnt like Roy's opinions, he should engage her in a dignified manner fitting a top news anchor, not turn his face to the camera and proclaim on live T.V that someone is disgusting. You call that acceptable? Roy didnt say Goswami must agree with her. She merely ask him to be more dignified and decent. Whats wrong with that? That would have been fine if she had actually asked him to be" more dignified and decent" which she didnt, and either ways, read this article where she goes on about R Guha http://www.frontlineonnet.com/fl1801/18010040.htm . Just a small quote from that article "Here's how Guha scores one of the more tragic 'own goals' since Escobar - you know what happened to Escobar! Guha isolates the sentence out of context and kicks it towards his own goal, then flies to the goal post to stage a spectacular save." Is she threatening Guha with some mob hit here?? cos thats what happened to Escobar. Read again. She didnt absolve Pakistan totally from all blame. She has just said 'the clear-cut link to Pakistan has become muddled because there have been some alleged local involvement. Whats so flagrant about that? And Just as an FYI, a few locals people have been arrested in Kolkata in relation to these attacks. Yes I know that few locals have been arrested, and obviously there needs to be local support for an event of this magnitude. And if this remark from her article "So already the neat accusation against Pakistan is getting a little messy". is not sarcastic, where it is conveying something akin to the Indian govt "neatly" accused Pakistan while it is not true, I dont know what else you can gather, she is absolving Pakistan and blaming the Indian Govt. And FYI, it is not even an accusation anymore, Pakistan may or may not be involved, but Pakistanis were. Yep, she does exaggerate here. Mumbai blasts would have happened irrespective of how we treat our Muslim citizens, coz, lets accept, those Islamic Mullahs in Pakistan simply do not like us. Good that you accept that, the worrying trend with her is that, this is not the first time she justifies these acts in a sinister way, and it is not just exaggeration it is OUTRIGHT JUSTIFICATION. No clue about V.P Singh, so have nothing to say about this.
Dude, Im not patronizing you nor being a smart ass here, but how can you not know about VP Singh? and mandal commission? Sorry if this comes across as patronizing. My replies in italics.

This is very debatable Sriram. I am assuming you are talking of Mumbai '93 blasts. The trigger to 93 blasts was indeed the episode at Babri and later on the following Mumbai riots. Sure ISI/Pakistan Intelligence wanted to hurt India, heck they had been doing it since Khalistan days, but why was Bombay not hit before 93? Why was Mumbai underworld not rabidly anti-India even though the underworld bosses were living outside Indian shores(Dubai) for about a decade?? xxxx

I think South India was largely untouched due to Reservation saga. Maybe because in most of Southern states the reservation %age is anyway as big, or more, than what Mondal Commission had recommended. It was North India that mostly bore the brunt.

I am talking about the recent blasts Lurks. Sure, the Muslim community in India do have some valid grievencies against certain sections of our society, but by and large, Indian Muslims are moderate. Its those foreign elements that instigate them to do something or, wholly orchestrate attacks in Indian soil.

I promise you dude, I know little of what the Mandal commission is and what was VP Singh's role in it. I have heard that name fleetingly every once in a while but, never had a chance to really know about what it was about.

From the time I started following mainstream national media ( from about '98), there havent been too many news reports on the Mandal commission or VP Singh's role in it. That may be another reason for my ignorance.

Come on mate, you cant be terribly critical on her for this. She merely claims to repeat what John McCain said. Now, that may NOT the official govt. position, but still, she isnt claiming to speak on behalf of the Govt. of India.

I am a bit lost on the Escobar bit. Can you elaborate?

Fair enough. God knows what mileage she could possibly obtain from absolving the pakistanis and blaming the Indian govt alone. You seem right, there are occasions of intellectual mishonesty here.

Thanks for pointing out these anamolies. I'll probably take what Roy says from here on with a pinch of salt.

Palo Escobar, was a colombian foot ball player, he scored a own goal in the 94 world cup which eventually led to the elimination of colombia (who were hyped bfor the cup) from the world cup. After the team went back to colombia he was killed allegedly by a fan for scoring the own goal,(although there were serious mob related allegations etc etc).

Pablo Escobar was the Columbian soccer player who was killed for doing a self-goal in World Cup. Apparently it was done because a fan had lost a lot of money. Unless of course he is talking of Pablo Escobar probably the biggest drug baron of the world who was shot dead, again in Columbia if I am not mistaken.

I was talking abt the soccer player, and I am pretty sure A roy was talking abt him too what with references to self goal etc. And you are right about the other Pablo Escobar drug lord from colombia.

The reason I am pissed off with A roy is because, she is one of the reasons moderates and liberals are called "pseudo seculars" etc. I am socially liberal and I hell dont want to be clubbed with A Roy
