fineleg Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 They sent a letter saying they cancelled my credit card due to it not being used for sometime! I mean - I have a few credit cards (5 or so - signed up at a time when I didnt know much abt them cards :giggle:), but I only use one regularly these days, and I pay it off on-time. But I wanted to keep the others open for credit history purpose - the stupid folks at chase should have sent a letter or called me saying they are considering closing the acct, and then maybe I may have used it to keep it active. But they just go ahead and cancel it without checking with me! Nonsense customer service! Hope it does not make more than a small ding in my credit history or FICO score - since I usually try to be careful to keep it at a good level. I checked on web, and apparently Chase, Bank of America, WaMu(JPM) have all been doing this to many, many of their credit card holders in last 2 months!
h4te Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 maybe one of the Chase reps is on the forum and read your posts........that would definitely explain it!

Having a credit card account open that you don't use doesn't help in improving your credit score/history.
fineleg Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Having a credit card account open that you don't use doesn't help in improving your credit score/history. I think one of the factors that go into calculation of the score is "average length cards are open" Even if card is not used - it goes into the "average time open" calculation. Thats how it helps.
