If we had full 450 overs of cricket' date=' the result would have been different ... instead we had around 330 overs being bowled ... lost nearly 4 sessions due to bad light !!![/quote'] thts is a lame excuse.even with 330 overs we had an opp. to thrash eng.we took a 150 run lead n an acceleration woud have helped.wat hurts most is that we didnt even try for a win.last year kumble tried bowling seamup n we got 7 wickets n still he was criticised.

To sum up the year - we lost two greats forcing them into retirement' date=' getting carried away by the byuoancy created by a new ODI captain and a new generation of cricketers, only to realize that the promised had not delivered and we are still the same defensive team. No. 1 is a long way to go...[/quote'] spot on!

Dhoni who promised to be a all achieving captain is yet to deliver big in tests. After winning the CB series in Australia, he had a very ordinary ODI series in Bladesh and Pkstan. Rohit, Robin, Raina etc who promised greater things in the beginning of the year, have gone back on their promises Mishra who had an excellent debut int he mohali test has a long way to go before he can be considered as a replacement for Kumble. We got carried away by his one success and forced kumble to retire. Ganguly should have been allowed to continue and we dint. If there was anyone to go, it was RD, but he's still sitting pretty in the team, with rare and painstaking hundreds Chennai (against SA) and Mohali. Yuvi is not being consistent in ODIs. If he fires in one series he goes blank in the other. He did play a good innings with Sachin in Chennai test. However, whether we can trust his abilities as a dependable middle order batsman in tests is a question. Zaks and Ishant have been bright spots in the bowling department. I dont think they did even one thing wrong in this entire year. The third pace bowler is still untried. Munaf / RP / Sreesant - whether they will pull themselves up for the challenges in NZ and England, we have to wait and see.

We started the day with 280+ lead. They could have straight away declared or to be on the safer side' date=' extended the lead to around 325 or so and declared. Instead he was more interested in allowing his best friend Yuvi and prodigy Ganbhir to get to their hundreds. What could have been a 2-0 white wash was reduced to 1-0 close fought series (remember - we dint win the chennai test convincingly, it was a miracle that we won there) due to Dhoni's spineless captaincy.[/quote'] agree totally.personal hundreds cant be bigger than win if we r to be no.1.

Ok 4/5 aint good enough for u din !!! :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
Dont look at it as 4 out of 5. It could have easily been 3 wins and 1 loss, if not for Sachin's long pending match winning 2nd ing century and Sehwag's bloodbath. We have to raise the bar for Dhoni. We should not be defending him saying he's better than the previous ones. He has the ability, he has the backing and he has a wonderful bunch of plaers at his disposal. I want to see him in the league of Steve Waugh, Hansie Cronje, Clive Lloyd etc.,

It could have been 0/5 had it not been for the other 10 besides him ... a captain is as good as his team ... look at Punter now ... The captains u have named Steve Waugh -- he would have failed had it not been for Warne, McGrath, Haydos and the rest same applies to hansie and lloyd .... So a captain is as good as his team and this is the very same team ... which lost the test series in SL, the series in Oz ... but now with Dhoni u can see the change

dhoni's PC after the game

It's not always so easy," he said after the game. "There was not much wear and tear [in the pitch]. We were leading the series 1-0 and it wasn't 100 percent sure that if we put them in to chase, we'd get them out to win the series 2-0. At the same time, we saw the importance of Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] and Yuvraj's batting on in the match. We wanted them to score their centuries.
wtf?are centuries more imp. than victories?u have to give ur self best chance n believe in that till the end.
One more reason was when we started batting yesterday evening, we were not sure about the fog. If we'd have gone after the bowlers right from the start and lost wickets thinking that it would be a 70-over game on the last day…. Suppose we turned up and found that it was okay to play at 9 am, like on the second day, and found that you had 98 overs. You would have been thinking that 350 would be a good score to set, and then you find that 98 overs are possible and 350 is easily achievable."
where is proactive dhoni now?it was almost given that fog will fall.if it doesnt fall, dont declare, but atleast show the intent. btw now that 'i knew' has suddenly changed 'we knew' once he is on hot seat.someone trying to pass the responsibility,eh?

I am telling you he gave the draw to the poms as a face saving consolation for coming back to play. We Indians are very hospitable people and do not leave a gentlemanly gesture unanswered. It would have been to cruel to blue and whitewash them and send them home.
:haha:

There is no doubt he should have declared earlier. Suprise really for Mr Positive Also the fact he was more interested in yuvi and gambhir getting tons and openly declared this was also very dissapointing. I thought he was new generation who had no interest in personal records and it was all about the team and them winning? Just imagine if sachin, dravid or kumble as captain sais such a thing, they would be slaughtered by many. Some how Dhoni gets away scott free, honey moon period still on going

On the whole' date=' he has done a tremendous job. You can tell by the positive vibes of all the Indian players...the dressing room is really upbeat and the team has gelled. This is where the value of his captaincy really lies.[/quote'] i think the real credit should go to gary kirsten.even b4 dhoni took over the test team, the team was as gelled.it wasnt winning as many matches, but despite that u could see players enjoying each other's success n playing for the team.dhoni ofcourse had a role to play, but IMO gary should be credited for it

And when we won aus series in oz(still say we won that series as bucknor denied us the win). Kumble was captain then, so he inherited a very good team with good atmosphere. Kumble was also captain for oz series at home which we won

We lost our opportunity to win this Test Match when Gambhir, Dravid, SRT and Laxman batted like a bunch of sissies on Day 4. That's what prolonged the declaration by a good session and assured a draw. Not like Dhoni declaring at lunch on Day 5 would've given us a result. We weren't getting them out in 50 odd overs anyway. I don't blame Dhoni for anything. Might as well go for centuries if a result is out of the question.
