goose
quite a telling stat that one. guys at the top more consistent and benefitting less from spikes in average brought on by freak innings (Lara 400) and/or indifferent bowling standards during career. Link to comment
Dhondy
Good work, Boss. To drive home the point further, one can look at the SD easily for these guys. It'll show that Sachin, at least in the first decade of his career, was the most consistent batsman of anybody in the last four decades. Link to comment
cochise
The field is now open...time to leave stats behind and BE. Link to comment
Shane
:woot: :D 6994 in 80 innings. :omg: Legend !!! Link to comment

The Outsider
:woot: :D 6994 in 80 innings. So if Bradman came out of his grave and made 69 straight ducks he would still average more than 50! Link to comment

The Outsider
Yep (unless he got Tate ' date=' Larwood and Co with him :--D ) ... and that is a testament to the quality of bowlers and standards Circa 30s that allowed him to avg 100 ... :winky:[/quote'] Yeah, though a bit surprisingly no one else could do it - ever. The Outsider
^WTF' date=' you dont have Srinath, Kapil or Kumble in that list..[/quote'] It's a list of bowlers whom Bradman and Tendulkar faced. Link to comment
Dhondy
Kallis comes out at top if you go by SD ... this is because the man has never gotten close to making a 200 yet has avg well north of 50... In cricket its perfectly ok to score a Double hundred once in ever 30-40 Tests. In my opinion cricket data presents one of those situations where SD is not really much helpfull ... :hmmm: Batsman SD --------------------------------- JH Kallis 44.90 R Dravid 48.44 IVA Richards 49.56 SM Gavaskar 50.08 Javed Miandad 51.02 ML Hayden 51.30 RT Ponting 51.57 SR Tendulkar 52.22 GS Sobers 54.19 BC Lara 62.37 Happy New Year, Boss. That's very good work. Can't really argue with the SD, although it can be adjusted for the number of innings played by dividing by sq root n to get the standard error. But Kallis emerges as the most consistent bat of this generation, no question. Link to comment
