ISLAMABAD: Foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan had given a "blank cheque" to China authorising it to negotiate with India on its behalf to deal with the aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Speaking at a reception at the Chinese embassy here on Wednesday night, Qureshi said he had told Chinese special envoy He Yafei to "go to Delhi and you have a blank cheque from us". The minister said he had told the envoy that Pakistan would endorse whatever China, all-weather friend of Pakistan, would tell India. The Chinese envoy visited Pakistan on December 29 and, during his meetings with the country's leaders, had indicated that Beijing would remain engaged with Islamabad to promote peace and stability in the region. Soon after Yafei's visit, Pakistan made two proposals for defusing tensions - it asked India to "de-activate" forward airbases and relocate troops to peace-time positions. The Chinese envoy travelled to New Delhi on January 5 and urged India to resume the dialogue with Pakistan. Qureshi also said that Pakistan regarded its ties with China as the cornerstone of its foreign policy. "We have complete trust, mutual understanding and convergence of views on bilateral, regional and international issues," he said. The bilateral relations, "which have withstood regional and global changes", would "flourish in the days ahead", Qureshi said.
Since US is pretty much with Indians on this and since US itself has started to put pressure on the pakis, they have decided to involve China into this .. I dont think we can trust china with it. They are still taking care of some part of kashmir on pak's behalf so how can they be neutral..

What morale ground does China has to negotiate with India?? In past, every attempt made by India to ban Jamaat-Ud-Dawah and Lashkar-e-Toiba in UN security council was Veto by China. It was ONLY China which effectively used it's Veto power in UN to protect terrorist organization, this means indirectly, China itself had aided the terrorism against India!

China wont be protecting Pakistan for long. There are repercussions. Pakistan is on the verge of bankruptcy and is literally living off foreign help. On the contrary China's economy is growing and they need to be on a better term with the rest of the world to grow. They have messed with their economy in the past and hopefully they have learned to be cautious. The question always comes back to USA and UK. The unrest in our part of the world has sustained because the US wanted it to. Makes it easy for them. Old tactics......divide and rule. The day US wants to put a stop to Pakistan's heroics, it will stop. A country like Pakistan, who need foreign help everyday to survive...ask them to survive a month on their own and them will fall flat on their face......is holding a gun to India and US with their suicide terrorists? What a joke.

Huh? Why should Pakistan authorize a third country, to negotiate on behalf of it in a bilateral issue (Mumbai attacks) b/w India and Pakistan? Are they that impotent? This is nothing but the Paks shamelessly trying to suck up to the Chinese, to show that everything is fine and dandy between them. However, If I were China I'd be seriously worried about the damage that is being caused by its association with a rogue nation like Pakistan.

In other words Pakistan doesnt have the diplomatic clout or wherewithal courage to deal directly with India, lest America gets ticked off with lack of activity, so they ask their brothers in crime the Chinese to do it for them. What will happen here, is China will try to arm wrestle India by proxy into giving concessions to Pak. Matters will die down quietly and Pakistan comes out looking as it was before. No diplomatic damage at all. America did something similar by having the Chinese negotiate with North Korea as well.

the weird thing is that nothing is happening now. I guess govt is slowly forgetting 26/11. They may have realized that now its been nearly 2 months and the world has moved on. Maybe chinese were successful to kill the tension

Veteran Journalist Ahmed Rashid reports from Waziristan...says area is lost and Pak Army is frighten of Taliban...the picture he paints is of a country falling apart and the army, not just not doing anything, but persecuting the villagers instead. It is a bleak picture indeed. Here, watch it, straight from the horses mouth and just imagine how bad the situation is getting across the border: [ame=http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=aGYthcdryzc]YouTube - Islamic Pakistani Army is Scared to Fight Taliban Al Quaeda, Somone Else has to Do the Job[/ame]
