Guest dada_rocks Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Unless there is one law for all that is UCC it's hard to call it secular.
triam Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Unless there is one law for all that is UCC it's hard to call it secular. Agreed
triam Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 UCC is a big part before being called secular, but what about removing religion completely from Government functioning?
Nash Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 See the overall picture. Muslim president . Sikh PM.. whatelse u guys want from india. Should i converted to islam and that will prove we are secular. Given some points you cant not argue that we are secular or not. That is same like you are spotting some black points on moon and telling that why u r black..
Desi Cartman Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Few valid points but a lot of whining. All countries have a culture which is based on the beliefs of majority population. Secular means if the author can become president tomorrow or join the Indian navy or get into IIT. It does not mean that all suburbs are going to have equal number of mandir masjids. I always found it amazing that govt offices in India had Murtis of bhagwan but as long as no one is being asked to pray , I think its something which can be ignored. The author forgot to raise the real issues of poverty among muslims but was more concerned about saravati vandana . I have studied in a catholic school as well as a sikh school. I have been forced/asked to sing religious songs from both religions every morning when I was in these schools but what is wrong if a child is taught that its ok to respect all religions and pray to every god. I mean thats what I gathered from studying in different schools
DomainK Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Secularism was the Mahatma's vision. Since him, we have made it a political word. Otherwise, its quite meaningless.
flamy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Well... does India recognize Atheism or Agnosticism?
triam Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Well... does India recognize Atheism or Agnosticism? nope
Guest dada_rocks Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 UCC is a big part before being called secular' date=' but what about removing religion completely from Government functioning?[/quote'] No state in the world will be seculare then.. those are tokenism real deal is monetary favouritisim Haj subsidiy Hindu/Muslim personal law etc etc I read that article that chump is wonderiong why was hyderabd army disbanded and kashmir army inducetd into indian army.. Someone tell that idiot kashmir army was not fighting against india army..
Guest dada_rocks Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Secularism was the Mahatma's vision. Since him' date=' we have made it a political word. Otherwise, its quite meaningless.[/quote'] but his acts were not in congruence with his vision.. I am sure he single-handedly repelled mullah by equating su-raj to Ram-Rajya Just imagine how a fundoo mullah wud react on being told some day Ram-Rajya will return to India.. that was the leitmotif of his most of the prarthana sabha
cowboysfan Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 we have been secular for more than 2000 years and will continue to do so.

Nope not true, in the US there is no display of religion anywhere in governmental orgs, you can sue the govt if they do display it. It is better in the West european countries. For us to be really secular both have to go, tokenisms and Monetary favoritisms.
punjabi_khota Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Nope not true' date=' in the US there is no display of religion anywhere in governmental orgs, you can sue the govt if they do display it. Kansas teaches creationism in schools. 3). All the oaths are supposedly taken on Bible. 4). No one in US can ever hope to become a president if he doesn't assure the public of his strong christian credentials. More than any kind of crap rules and regulations you talk about, THAT fact tells you the real story of how secular which country is.

Kansas teaches creationism is old news(it is overruled now), and US actually banned creationism being taught in public schools in 1987, the whole ID thing (without religion or god) caught them with their pants down, but they (kansas state) has actually changed the definition of Science and scientific education to avoid these kind of traps. 3. Not true 4. that just shows the people are not the GOVERNMENT. sorry no mas

That is nothing but double standards dude. Traditionally, India has been a hindu nation and hinduism is viewed more as a way of life. Such things are less religious and more cultural in nature.
triam Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 Spot on. sorry triam but you are not true liberal ... Does that work the same way if India put a defacto Hindu-Only PM&Prez check ... I doubt it. You will be going banana's . No I would not, as long as the government is secular. So what you want is UCC but not completely secular as in abolishing symbolic objects? if that was the case you are not liberal not me.
