Pietersen will make good IPL captain - Jennings Cricinfo staff February 10, 2009 Kevin Pietersen may give captaincy a second shot, this time with his IPL team © Getty Images Kevin Pietersen may work well as captain of the Bangalore Royal Challengers for a short period this IPL season, Ray Jennings, the team's coach, has said. It is likely that Pietersen, who was bought by the franchise for a record US$ 1.55 million in the second auction in Goa this month, will take over the captaincy from Rahul Dravid for the first three weeks of the tournament before returning to England. Vijay Mallya, the team's owner, hinted at a change of captaincy after the auction. "The captaincy options are open," Mallya said. "The team management will take a decision on it." Pietersen gave up the England captaincy just before the ongoing tour of the West Indies but Jennings was confident he'd be up to the task and bring about a whole new dimension to the struggling team. "Kevin may work really well as captain for a short period," Jennings told the Times. "A small amount of time means a limited amount of time for things to go wrong. Captains often have that honeymoon period anyway. "We bought Kevin to improve our whole profile, which goes beyond cricket. Kevin has great, eye-catching cricketing skills. He is also a very marketable guy. He is a product who can go across India and he might be an ideal captain over four weeks or so." The Royal Challengers finished second from the bottom in the inaugural edition last year and the franchise was blamed for picking a team which was not really suited to the Twenty20 format. © Cricinfo -- Too much ars3 licking going on here now. How can you make offer captaincy role to a player who was sacked as a captain from his own national team (well not really). Moreover, he is only available for 3 weeks. Is Mallya expecting the BRC team to run out of the steam within the first 3 weeks of IPL (giving up entirely on IPL title). BRC is being really unreasonable to Rahul Dravid who was their best batsman in the last edition and overall 12th best. Mallya is flashing too much money and I hope he loses them in a jiffy. ba$tard

Yep. Feel sorry for all teams that have publicity seeking owners like SRK' date=' Mallaya, Zinta and now Shilpa shetty.[/quote'] Ambani can pwn all these wannabe's asses whenever he wants yet he stays out of team's selection and lets the staff do their job. Buying a team does not make one the decision maker. Team owner's job is to provide the team with that they need, he does not tell them what to do
