Zap_Brannigan Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Thats like saying that if you stop pirating windows' date=' MS will come up with a better OS. :hehe:[/quote'] MS makes 15 billion dollars a year in profit and over 80% of the computers in the world runs on windows. MS has a monopoly and has no real competition. Even if windows OS is bad ala vista, it will still make billions for them. Game developers barely break even.Apart from a few dozen developers, most live from game to game. If they don't make enough money, they dont have enough to invest for the next project. When EA madden football sells around 5 million copies, they put more money into the games the next time. The animations, physics and the general polish in 1 madden game is more than every cricket game put together. In short, madden is a good game because they need to put more effort into it while a cricket game looks like it is from last decade.

EA game company is the biggest slave driver in the whole of software Industry. For all the profit it makes, the work conditions and such in that company remain horrible. Developers work 70-80 hours a week, and are paid on an average, lower than software counterparts from non-game industry (even the boring IT jobs pay higher). You are being naive if you think that more profits will mean better games from behemoths like EA. Also, most EA games change very little from season to season, and mostly, they are tending to the seasonal market so they have launch a new game at the start of EVERY season. The cost of doing it every year so high that most of the money and effort spent goes NOT into improving the playing experience but stuff like publicity, packaging, buying more rights/trademarks (of stuff like EPL) and stuff like that. Mostly things which only have peripheral impact on the game playing experience. If you are aware of the amount of testing etc that has to be done before launch, it leaves developers with VERY little time to actually implement something really new into the game. My 2 cents.

EA is not the only game developers. EA is huge but even they had a 500 million $ loss last year. They have numerous studios spread across the world and is the 2nd largest publishers in the world. The cricket studio is just one of them. Madden, NBA, MLB are just one part of EA. EA also has a much more diverse game library which rides on innovation or is atleast not yearly sequel oriented like Dead space last year. Dead space was one of best original IP last year. It sold **** while the *****y Need for speed sold 5 million copies. Now, they are not going to be working on a Dead space sequel. That's how the industry works. Again Madden hasnt changed year after year because there is no competition. Why dont you take fifa for example. It wasnt good a few years back but it was popular. But then PES came along and stole its thunder. EA put in more effort into their subsequent fifa games and now fifa is better than PES. What about codemasters Brian Lara cricket? They could do much better with more money or the international cricket captain ? Its simple supply and demand. Do you know "world of goo" ?Look it up. Its a great small game. Unfortunately, more people pirated that game than people who bought it. The developers ran out of money and they had to Shut down last year. More and more PC game developers are moving to consoles because they are afraid of piracy on PCs but something like cricket needs to be on PC because majority of the target audience dont have a console. If they dont do well, then its goodbye cricket games.
