I usually work form home for an hour every morning and hence I get in an hour late and I leave at the same time as everybody else, also my line of work is completely different from all other team members. The sort of work load I have is different and expectations are also a little different. I manage my work in the way I want .. I work late at night .. I work early in the morning and when I dont have much to do then Im online and I chat with people... The thing I fail to understand is that why does it bother other people what I do , I do my job , the client is happy , projects finish in time , if there is a production issue it gets resolved in no time but when I come to work people look at me as if I have stolen their money. They try to taunt at times and ask stupid questions like "are you working a half day today ". Im trying to understand why is it wrong if someone has a life where he doesnt need to get in at 8. why do these things make people feel jealous ? or angry as if Im increasing their workload ... I dont get it .. if I have it easy then why does it annoy others .. Its not the managers or the clients but its the team members. I have had a chat with my manager about this as well and he also said the same thing that other team members feel that I get away with things ... Can anybody tell me why people feel this way .. has it ever happened to you and what suggestions do you have for me ......... Its nothing serious but it does make me feel a little awkward at times :((:((

You have spot on mate, of course its jealousy. People may be quite carefree when it comes to the personal lives, but when it comes to their professional life, they can get quite picky and jealous, especially when it involves workload and timings. When they see one of their colleague seemingly working less for the same level of pay, there is bound to be some murmurs and sneering comments. Dont worry though, you cant control what other people think bout you. All you need to know is whether your manager is happy with your performance or not.

It started when I had shingles .. I actually came to work and when I told my manager he sent me home and asked me to work from home till it gets completely healed .. it took 3 weeks and since then people believe that as if I try to avoid coming to work .. these people sent me home because they were scared that they might get infected.. to make it worse my wife was in the hospital for few days and I took time off and apparently people dont do that here ! They got pissed off since I took 3 days off when my wife was in the hospital and even my manager didnt like me taking time off for that but I was honest and said .. "look if it happens again , I will again take time off .. I cant leave her alone if she is getting surgery done" anyway .. the problem I have is that Im way too friendly and open about things so if people ask me how busy are u , Im always honest and say not much ... but other people read news all day but if u ask how is it going they say "flat out mate" ... Its pathetic ... also they get paid at least 50% more than I do since they have been in jobs for last 20-25 years ... they have different skills as well ... Anyway .. when I spoke with my manager he said the same thing that its about perception ...

Yes, people like to "see colleagues around" in the office. They assume thats when they are working. If you work from home, even though they say "thats cool" - they are more assured when you work out of the office. No matter how much they say - "as long as work gets completed, then its ok", truth of the matter is people want to see other people in the office during a standard timeslot of 9-6 or 10-7 or whatever the "norm" is in the place.

I thought this problem was only in India where u had to make sure that u leave as late as possible to show that u work hard ... im a little surprised that its in Australia as well .. but yes at least the managers are not like that

I think it depends what kind of environment and culture of your organization you work in. When I was in operations I had a similar kind of issue where being in office was considered good and people always had issues with working from home and stuff. I moved into consulting a while ago and its a totally different culture. No one cares if you are in office or not, no direct reporting structure but than you are working pretty much all the time... I guess you can'e win either way :((

Im pretty friendly with guys here but they have been sort of pissed off for no reason ... Like the guy who gave me a smart comment this morning left for lunch around 11.30 and its 1.20 but he isnt back what Im confused about is , shall i change my routine for these guys since at the end of the day I have to work with them or just ignore these comments or take this up with my manager ... the problem with taking up this with the manager is that I dont want it become an Issue .... if I change myself then "will that really prove these guys that I do work " .. I dont know

Desi' date=' what you're doing is right. I know its easier to say it but just ignore them. As long as your manager knows who's doing the work, you shouldn't worry.[/quote'] till now I have treated these guys as friends but it seems they want me to treat them as team members and I will do that from now on ...Not much chit -chat no jokes nothing .. :orderorder::orderorder:

If there is a conflict with your immediate team member you need to take care of it. Sooner or later you will need to work with him and this could be an issue than.
