Macj Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 While browsing through some cricket videos on Youtube as usual I came across numerous pieces of nastiness regarding Hindus, India and the 'piss-drinking' culture. Sadly there was not one person who refuted these allegations or at least attempted to clarify the same without abuse. 1) Urine Drinking: First of all Hindus do not 'drink' as in consume urine, the correct term is urine therapy, its rare and is present in almost all of the ancient cultures. The Romans practised Urine therapy for sicknesses ranging from the common cold to skin disorders. Lo and behold even the Islamic Prophet has prescribed consumption of Camel urine as a therapeutic measure.(Sahi-al-Bukhari Volume 7, Book 71, Number 590.) 2) The term Hinduism. We are not 'Hindus' there was never such a term, it was a foreign import, though its import is wide and we will have to resign being called thus. From Persian - Sindhus (people living on the riparian banks of the River Sindhu) --> Hindus. The correct term is Followers of Sanatana Dharma. 3) The Charge of 'Idolatory' Worship of Idols , Monkeys and such: In truth we dont 'worship' idols but use the 'Murthy' as a focal point to seek unison with God.The various Murthies signify the various paths we wish to meditate on.So there may be a Hanuman Murthy, a Vishnu Murthy etc, but we do not worship the idol but simply use the Murthy to facilitate this oneness with God. At its very core Hinduism or Sanathana Dharma is a monotheistic religion. Just thought ill get that off my chest.

I am more concerned about people who try to tell me how to follow my religion. One moron RSS type fundo once rung my bell to tell me not to put Ganeshji on my door as it is 'our God'. I really lost my head and gave her a piece of my mind.
