Number Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 i cant understand y some of the ppl out here in this thread happen to be very anti-india. india' date=' always had the potential to produce a 170 kph+ bowler & now when we r about to do it, some of u ppl dont believe it. and before calling it a hoax, just remember that munaf has bowled at 152.1 kph once & ishant sharma bowled at 158.3 kph earlier this year and after few days, we will c atul sharma breaking the 170 kph barrier. atul sharma, along with ishant & zaheer will make a very unplayable fast bowling attack & we will be able to roll other teams for <150-200[/quote'] :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

I spent six months at IMG in Florida, then University of North Carolina, back across to MCI training camp in the UK, out to Potchefstroom, home to Mumbai and then out to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) in Brisbane. My goal was to improve my ability to bowl fast and achieve Olympic level fitness. old interview: http://www.dreamcricket.com/community/blogs/usa_cricketer/archive/2009/05/19/meet-atul-sharma-first-ipl-player-to-have-trained-in-usa.aspx
1983-2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 to become a cricketer, you practice in the cricket field, train in the gym and eat healthy food. not bloody spend fortune in fitness academies in USA and Australia
Sid Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Ian Point, his coach will always be remebered for 2 things : 1) Atul Sharma 2) Butterfly ball Both of which never came :cantstop:
Cricket Tragic Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Ian Point, his coach will always be remebered for 2 things : 1) Atul Sharma 2) Butterfly ball Both of which never came :cantstop:
zep1706 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 He will reach 40 in his pursuit of being fit and perfecting his javelin throw, then realize, "Geez, I didn't bowl a ball".:haha:
ChanaLal Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Ian Point, his coach will always be remebered for 2 things : 1) Atul Sharma 2) Butterfly ball Both of which never came :cantstop: I found this online: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMyAkM5M-J4]Projapoti "Butterfly" by Catherine Dalton - YouTube[/ame] Zaheer Khan is reportedly using it. The grip, pinched in the flinger tips, is certainly identical and the commentator says it is a NEW delivery. He never had this before the WC. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puHZ-BObuL0]Zaheer Khan Fantastic Return Catch Of Caremoon White In World Cup 2011 720p HD - YouTube[/ame] Not sure a coach can make a player want to play if he doesn't want to himself (Sharma). The fact that Brett Lee and now Zaheer Khan are using two of Pont's slower balls says quite a bit I feel.
Jersey #10 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 ^Lol this is called the "butterfly ball"? I use this at least once every over I bowl in my league! It's my version of the "slower ball" or at least that's what I usually call it...:haha:
Pagalpanti Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Isn't it like giving the ball a flight, like spinners do.
msb1991 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I'm pretty sure Brett Lee's is done by holding the ball deep in the hand with a regulation grip and Zaheer's is the 'knuckle ball'. The butterfly ball looks to have flight in the air but it must be noted that Dalton is much slower than your average men's pacer and so her slower ball will be slower and also that a slower ball tends to look quicker than it is as the batsman scrambles to change their reaction.
Late Cut Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 it's simply a knuckle ball from baseball. No mystery there.
msb1991 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 it's simply a knuckle ball from baseball. No mystery there. Zaheer's is a knuckle ball but the butterfly ball is slightly different.

The Slob, which is the ball Lee bowls, is a Pont invention, and the knuckle ball isn't quite the same as The Butterfly. It's interesting to note Zaheer only started bowling this after the publicity about theButterfly. As a club bowler myself and a fan of new inventions, the slower balls are definitely unique. The Butterfly is almost impossible to grip :giggle: and I cannot control it yet. The Slob is an open hand sort of delivery that Lee has perfected from Pont's grip.
nballa Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 i distinctly recall watching a video of this dude flipping tractor tires and running up and down some stairs in a fitness display of epic proportions. he also had a bowling runup where his legs almost get into a tangle with each other. wouldn't be far fetched to assume his javelin throw runup caused him to trip breaking a bone or two and has been out of action ever since.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Some details about SLOB and Lee's video will be useful
